St. James’ Vestry Meeting Minutes

The meeting commenced at 7:04 PM with a prayer from Rev. Madeline, and adjourned
at 9:03 pm.

1. Rev. Lisa introduced Madeline Hawley, our new curate.
2. Consent Agenda Erin moved that we approve the consent agenda and Linda seconded. The motion was approved.
3. Vestry Finance Committee Report - Results year to date through May presented.
Cash flow is tight and staff is needed.
4. Vestry Lay Ministry Report - Information sessions scheduled for prospective vestry
members. Sandra is updating the vestry packet.
5. Filling Vestry Terms - Due to loss of Rolando and Liliana, we have a 1.5 year term
to fill and a 6 month term to fill. Two parishioners have expressed interest in serving
so far. In addition, we will lose the 3 members of the class of 2016.
6. Jason Myers will need a letter of recommendation for his Discernment Process by
September.
7. Rector’s Report -
• Lisa is very happy to have Madeline here. Sandy Battiste and Teresa Chang are
leading a One Human Race workshop-based project.
• There is an opportunity to apply for a Strategic Mission Grant from the diocese
which would supply $50,000 over the next two years. It could cover further conversations about race.
• Our Racial Reconciliation Gala will be Founder’s Day weekend this year, on December 5.
• Assistant Chancellor of the Diocese is drawing up the closing resolutions for St.
James’ Episcopal School. All proceeds from school furniture & equipment sale
(about $15,000) belongs to church, subject to final approval from Asst. Chancellor.
Remaining money needs to be distributed according to donor intent and Asst.
Chancellor will provide guidance on how to satisfy donor intent. Some might go to
teachers, other might come to church with stipulation that donor intent still be honored.
8. Senior Warden’s Report -
• Signed contrast for lease of school buildings has been presented to diocese.
• Vestry Nominating Committee is being formed.
9. There will be no vestry meeting in August. Vestry fun day will be the evening of August 28.
