Thunder Visit Stingrays For Sunday Matinee
The South Carolina Stingrays finish off a three-game home weekend when
they take on the Adirondack Thunder Sunday afternoon at the North
Charleston Coliseum. The Thunder picked up a victory over South Carolina
earlier this month in Glens Falls by a score of 3-2. South Carolina has won
four straight at home since returning from an 11-day trip up north. The
Stingrays are tied for second place in the ECHL’s South Division standings
with 61 total points after winning their first three games of the week.
Adirondack is tied in third place in the North Division with 62 points,
five points behind Manchester and one point behind Reading. Sunday’s
meeting is the second and final of the regular season between the two
teams.
Stingrays Dethrone Monarchs With Sweep
The South Carolina Stingrays used a hot start to get out ahead of the
Manchester Monarchs and secure a 5-3 victory Saturday in front of a
crowd of 8,106 fans on Pack The House Night at the North Charleston
Coliseum. John Parker scored 16 seconds in and added another tally in
the second period, while Marcus Perrier had a goal and two assists, and
both Rob Flick and Domenic Monardo each had a goal and an assist. Joe
Cannata made 24 saves to earn his third consecutive win for the Stingrays
in between the pipes. Monardo has now picked up a point in nine straight
games and has 28 points on the season (nine goals, 19 assists). Overall,
the shots were even for the game at 27-27. Both teams also went scoreless
on the power play with South Carolina finishing 0-for-4 and Manchester
ending 0-for-3.

and Mason McDonald have both seen action in net for the
Thunder this season. Fielding has a goals against average of 2.74
and a save percentage at .903 while McDonald has a GAA at 2.85
and an SVP of .893.
Stingrays History vs. Adirondack
South Carolina faced Adirondack three times during the 201516 regular season, the Thunder’s first in the ECHL. Although the
Stingrays defeated Adirondack 5-1 in the teams’ first ever meeting
on Jan. 8, the Thunder got revenge with a 4-2 win the following
night and also defeated SC 3-2 in overtime on March 5. The two then
met up for a memorable 7-game series during last spring’s Kelly Cup
Playoffs, with the Stingrays taking the final two games in front of
their home crowd to clinch the series win. The first meeting between
the two on Feb. 7 was a 3-2 victory for the Thunder.
Monardo Making A Difference
Forward Domenic Monardo has been the hottest Stingrays’ forward
recently and is currently riding a nine-game point streak with 16
points on six goals and 10 assists during the span. Monardo has
goals in five of his last six games and has also recorded at least three
shots on goal in 10 of his last 11 outings. The Oakville, Ont. native
now has 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists) in 36 games with South
Carolina this year and has moved up to third in scoring among
active Stingrays players.
Flick Catches Fire
Rob Flick took it upon himself to erase an early deficit Friday night,
scoring once in each period to record the first hat trick of the season
for a Stingrays skater. Flick also had an assist on a goal by Scott
Tanski, and engaged in some physical play by dropping the gloves
for a fight late in the first period. He finished the contest with 11
penalty minutes. The forward leads the team in both goals (24) and
points (48) through 49 games this year. In addition, Flick has scored
points in 13 straight home games, dating back to Dec. 10. The
stretch is tied for the longest in the league this season.
Perrier Producing Offensively
Marcus Perrier has thrived offensively during the current home
stand for South Carolina and has now scored goals in back-to-back
games for the Stingrays. The forward also added two asssits in
Saturday night’s 5-3 win over Manchester and now has 18 points on
the season (seven goals, 11 assists) through 51 games. The versitile
skater has played both forward and defense this season for the Rays.

turned out to be the game-winner in the third period for South
Carolina, while Domenic Monardo scored for the fourth consecutive
