MAIN DECISIONS
EXECUTIVE COUNCIL DECISIONS – 06 February 2015
The Executive Council met at 09.00 hours this Friday 06 February 2015
under the chairmanship of the Chief Commissioner,
Mr. Louis Serge CLAIR, G.C.S.K.
1.
The Executive has agreed that the two best performing boys and girls of the
three colleges, Mont Lubin, Marechal and Le Chou, of REDCO Ltd who have
succeeded in the Higher School Certificate Examinations 2014 be awarded the
Rodrigues Regional Assembly Scholarships for Undergraduate Courses for
academic year 2015/2016. The students will be awarded scholarships for full
time undergraduate courses at recognized universities and other tertiary
institutions as announced in the Budget Speech 2015.

The Executive Council has agreed for the payment of the cost of food samples
conformity test for human consumption in favour of AGROD/Limon d’Or agroprocessor at the Government Analyst Division in Mauritius with a view to
obtain a pre-market certificate for their agro products.
3.
The Executive Council has agreed for the recruitment of two additional
educators for the Rodrigues Association for the Disabled in order that the
institution complies with the norms and standards of the Special Education
Needs School in providing adequate care and education to the children. The
Association has been renamed as the Development and Learning Centre for
Disabled Children.
4.
The Executive Council has agreed that the Commission for Environment
procures 7,000 household garbage bins with a view to facilitate the temporary
storage of wastes until collection and carting away to dumping site.

The Executive Council has agreed that the Commission for Community
Development proceeds with the launching of bids for Phase 1 of the
construction of a Youth and Women Centre at English Bay. The works
comprise the construction of a building of 400 m2 to accommodate a
multipurpose hall, an artisanal shop, an office with annexed mess room, an
open veranda, a caretaker corner, a store room and toilet facilities.

The Executive Council has taken note that the Commission for Education has
launched advertisement in respect of the five scholarships offered by the
Government of India under the Africa Scholarship Scheme and the one
offered by the People’s Republic of China. The selection exercise for
scholarships offered by the Government of India has been scheduled for 23
and 24 February 2015.

The Executive Council has taken note that the following two competitions are
being organized in favour of HSC students in Mauritius and Rodrigues:

(i)
a Project Competition by the Mauritius Standard Bureau in order to
create awareness on the importance of standards and as a consequence
to sensitize the public at large on the role of the bureau; and
(ii)
an Oratory Skill Competition by the Nelson Mandela Centre for African
Culture Trust Fund operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and
Culture to mark the Black History month 2015 on the theme:
“Recognition, Justice and Development”.
The Executive Council has taken note of the work programme of the
Conservation Unit of the Forestry Services for the year 2015.

The Executive Council has taken note of the status of the procurement for the
acquisition of Global Positioning System (GPS) for off lagoon fishers. The
project aims at providing 300 professional off-lagoon fishers with a GPS to
better localize fishing points.
10.
The Executive Council has taken note that the Rodrigues Tourism Office is
participating in the International Travel Trade Show (ITB) Berlin in Germany
from 04 to 08 March 2015.
11.
The Executive Council has taken note of the actions being initiated by the
Commission for Environment to have an integrated waste management
system in Rodrigues. A “Centre de Tri” will be implemented at Roche Bon
Dieu for the management of glass bottles and metal wastes. Glass bottles will
be crushed and the end product mainly sand will be reutilized and metal
waste will be deposited to be compacted for export. These two actions are
expected to absorb about 30% of non-compostable wastes.
