IWBF Rule Change Summary 2017 - British Wheelchair Basketball

IWBF Rule changes summary 2014
Player Numbers:
Legal player numbers are 0 and 00 and from 1 to 99.
Time Outs:
Purpose: To prevent an excessive number of time-outs at the end of the game,.
During the game, each team may have:

2 time-outs during the first half (can be taken at any time),

3 time-outs during the second half with a maximum of 2 of these time-outs in the last
2 minutes of the second half.
TABLE OFFICIALS: the first time-out box of the second half should be marked with
‘=’ if no time-outs have been taken by the final 2 minutes of the 4th Quarter.
If overtime is needed, each team may take 1 (one) time-out in each period of overtime.
Shot clock
Purpose: To speed up the game and encourage more attacking during the game.
After the ball has touched the ring of the opponents’ basket, the shot clock shall be reset to

24 seconds, if the opposing team (defensive team) gains control of the ball.

14 seconds, if the team which regains control of the ball is the same team that was in
control of the ball before the ball touched the ring (offensive team).
Lifting
It is only lifting if the player rises from the wheelchair, i.e. both of the players buttocks leave
the seat.
A player cannot leave their seat to shoot, rebound or pass the ball or attempt to block a shot
or a pass from an opponent or attempt to secure a pass from a team-mate.
Both wheels leaving the floor is no longer classed as lifting.
The penalty for lifting remains a technical foul (see later).
Technical foul
Purpose: The current penalty is considered excessive
The penalty for a technical foul is now 1 (one) free throw plus possession at the centre line
opposite the scorers table.
This is the case EXCEPT a technical foul awarded for lifting in an attempt to block a shot:

If made then the basket counts and either 2 (two) or 3 (three) points are awarded and
1 (one) free throw is awarded.

If missed, then the player attempting the shot will make either 2 (two) or 3 (three)
shots, followed by possession at the centre line opposite the scorers table.
A player who receives 2 (two) technical fouls will be disqualified for the remainder of the
game. No additional penalty for the disqualification shall be given in addition to that awarded
for the second technical foul.
TABLE OFFICIALS : After the 2nd technical foul, the scorer should record GD (game
disqualifying) in next available personal foul box.
Unsportsmanlike foul
The penalty remains unchanged
nd
TABLE OFFICIALS : After the 2 unsportsmanlike foul, the scorer should record

D
