Control Go Control software is available to Somerset schools at £150 for a site license (Somerset schools have had special offers for a half price upgrade from Flowol 3). A free demonstration version can be downloaded from Data Harvest website . Learners can program and control both sophisticated on-screen Animated Control Environments (ACEs) and ‘real worl’d models and devices with the addition of a control interface, such as FlowGo. The software will support learners to understand: the use of efficient procedures to solve a problem that feedback from monitoring can be used in control procedures The software will support teachers to: set problems solving tasks where learners are expected to write procedures to achieve outcomes challenge learners to make procedures more efficient The software allows learners to: Explore instructions to control software or hardware with an input Control onscreen mimics and devices using one or more input Ask and answer ‘what happens if…?’ Use inputs to activate a sequence Create a procedure to detect feedback from an input in order to activate a sequence of actions Identify difficulties and articulate a solution for a control program ACE on-screen representation of an interface – click on i button on ACE to clarify problem. A FlowGo box provides a control interface with a memory. When connected to a computer, FlowGo works as a standard control interface, switching bulbs, buzzers or motors on and off, according to the program. It also allows a program to be downloaded to its memory so that FlowGo can run the program completely independently, whilst disconnected from the computer. This will automatically appear when Go is opened or New is selected. To begin a new flowchart or procedure click on the start icon. The parallelogram represents an output. You can select the output to be turned on or off or a motor to be active. A Flow Line is used to link "on screen" commands. Applying a new flow line will automatically delete an incorrect one. The rectangle represents an operation to be performed. It is the process icon. Choose to wait or select a procedure. The Diamond represents when a decision in a program is performed. It is used to check for feedback from an input signal to decide what to do next so it has both a YES and a NO line. eg Is Input 1 on? e-learning curriculum team July 2009
