General News
All staff and children would like to welcome Miss
Lynn back to Nursery following the birth of her
beautiful baby girl, Eva May.
The Nursery will be participating in Red Nose Day on
the 15th of March. Red Noses will be available to
purchase throughout the week and we will be selling
cakes baked by children and staff. We have had
offers from parents/carers to bake which is very
much appreciated- any contributions are welcome.
We will be holding an Easter Bonnet competition on
Thursday 28th of March at 11am. Miss Ashley and Miss
Maureen will judge the entries, there will be a 1st,
2nd and 3rd prize. If your child does not attend
Nursery on a Thursday morning please feel free to
bring them along at 11am in their Easter Bonnets for
the parade.
Mindstretchers is a company made up of an
enthusiastic and dedicated group of people who feel
that all children are entitled to learn in a multi
sensory and naturally creative environment- find out
more at www.mindstretchers.co.uk. Janette
Robertson from the company will be visiting the
Nursery on Monday the 11th of March to introduce a
variety of outdoor resources developed by the
company. We are also purchasing the outdoor
learning DVD from Mindstretchers where the founder,
Claire Warden, shares her practice, philosophy and
expertise that underpins the award winning Auchlone
Nature Kindergarten in Scotland.
Finally, one of our Mums is opening a beauty salon,
Ciel, in the west end of Glasgow. To celebrate the
opening all staff are going along on Friday evening
for some well deserved pampering!
Buttercup and Daisy Room
During February the children in the Buttercup and
Daisy Room had fun learning all about animals. We
splashed in the water like ducks, read animal stories
and used various feathers and fabrics to create
pictures. We also investigated our sense of smell by
exploring fresh mint and basil leaves, cinnamon
sticks, orange, lemon and vanilla essence and coffee
beans.
Throughout March we will continue exploring our
senses by introducing various sounds. We have linked
this to children’s interest in animals by making an
animal book in the 6 different languages the children
and their families speak.

Thank you to all of the parents/carers who took the
time to provide us with the translations. We have
also started listening to Baby Boom Boom CDs which
sing nursery rhymes in English and then German and
Italian.
As spring and Easter approaches, we will be going
nature walks, taking part in an egg hunt and
decorating our own eggs. We will be introducing
rabbits and chicks to our animal theme.
The boys and girls in the Buttercup and Daisy Room
would like to wish May lots of luck in her move to the
Bluebell Room. We’re sure she will have lots of fun.
Finally we would like to welcome Miss Lynn back
from her maternity leave.
Bluebell Room
In February we had lots of fun exploring messy play.
We investigated the texture and properties of a
variety of everyday materials such as pasta, shaving
foam, gelli baff and different types of flour and
pulses. We also experimented with different painting
techniques.
In March we will be learning about spring time. We
will be going on lots of nature walks to the park to
look for the changes in the plants that the warmer
weather brings and hope to find lots of interesting
materials to bring back to Nursery to make our spring
pictures. Our book of the month will be ‘On the
Farm’ which is all about colours, numbers and
shapes.
The Bluebell Room children would like to say
goodbye and good luck to Oscar, Christopher,
Francesco and Charlie who have moved to the
Daffodil Room. We would also like to welcome May
who is coming to play with the Bluebell Room
children from the Buttercup Room.

Daffodil Room
During the month of February we celebrated Valentines
Day by making cards for our Mums and Dads . We also
celebrated Shrove Tuesday by decorating pancakes. We
read a new story ‘Itchy Bear’ and explored the storysack
containing Itchy Bear and his friends. The Daffodil Room
children would like to welcome new friends to the room;
Scarlett, Christopher, Charlie and Francesco. In February
we participated in lots of messy play using shaving foam,
rice pudding, gelli baff and gloop.
During March we are going to learn about spring and how
things grow. We will be planting seeds in our garden and
looking after them. We are also planning on keeping
caterpillars and feeding them to enable them to grow
into butterflies. In March we will celebrate St Patrick’s
Day by going on a four leaf clover hunt. We will also
celebrate Easter by going on a search for Easter eggs and
the Easter Bunny.
