Branch Coach Overview of Role: During 2015 and 2016 an independent review of the GUI’s High Performance (HP) System was performed by Wharton Consulting. As a result of this review, the Board of the GUI decided to implement a new centrally led HP System. As part of this, a HP Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) comprising the National Coach, National Programme Manager and four Branch Leads was appointed in May 2017. Moving forward, the SLT will be looking to align the HP activities of the GUI at Provincial and National level. Following this development, the talent pathway will begin with panels at Regional level spread across each Province, feeding in to a Provincial centre and on to National panels. Regional Provincial National Working with the Provincial Branch Lead in their respective Branch, each Branch Coach will work to develop young Irish golfers at both Regional and Provincial level. Coaches may work with panels at Regional and Provincial level from the ages of approx. 11-18+. The Coach will be expected to work as part of a team of Branch Coaches in each Province and be willing to engage in a mentoring programme. Coaches will also be expected to engage in continuous personal development. Annual coach reviews will highlight key areas for Branch Coaches personal development. Key Responsibilities • • • Attend Branch Coach meetings as required throughout the year Communicate regularly and effectively with the Branch HP Lead, senior Branch Officers and relevant Branch Committees regarding the development of players progressing through the talent pathway. Alongside the Branch HP Lead, plan and co-ordinate the Branch coaching calendar in line with national guidelines, to provide players within the talent development programme at provincial level with the optimum chances for development • • • • Plan, prepare and execute panel coaching sessions within the philosophy of the overall HP Programme to aid the development of elite players Prior to sessions, communicate with players to identify their needs and tailor the session accordingly Aid the Branch HP Lead in the identification of player needs from specialist coaches and support service providers to enhance the coaching programme at Branch levels Communicate regularly with personal coaches of players to help tailor each individual programme to suit players’ needs Experience Minimum 3-5 years’ experience developing young golfers Reporting Line • There will be a direct line of reporting for each Branch Coach to their Branch HP Lead. Candidates will then be asked to perform a practical demonstration of their coaching session in addition to completing a short interview.
