Expression of Interest
The South Surrey/White Rock Minor Softball Association wishes to engage a Technical Director to
assist us in fulfilling our mission to provide the softball players in our association an enjoyable
opportunity to learn, develop and compete in a safe, inclusive and encouraging team environment.
South Surrey/White Rock Minor Softball Association has a long history of playing youth softball out of
Sunnyside Park. The association fields teams from U6 to U19 in the ‘C’ (house) and ‘B’ (rep ‘B’)
classifications. On rare occasions when a team has proven their capabilities on the field we have also
fielded teams in the ‘A’ classification (rep ‘A’). In the 2015 season the association had 419 players
(391 girls and 28 boys), 98 volunteer coaches, and 42 teams (34 ‘C’ and 8 ‘B’). Fifty one percent of our
players were U10 or younger.
In the past five years the association has worked hard to develop programs that meet our strategic
goals of having better trained coaches, better trained players enjoying the game more, and players
enjoying the game staying with our association and playing the game longer. One of the keys to
achieving our goals is having a Technical Director to take responsibility for the mentoring of our
newest coaches and our youngest players.
Technical Director – Terms of Reference
1) Duties and Responsibilities
a. Organize and facilitate our Learn-to-Play (LTP) program. [75 hours]
b. Provide Mini Mite pitching clinics in May/June. [15 hours]
c. Organize and facilitate our Spring Training (gym night for house players in January,
February, March). [25 hours]
d. Assist with house player evaluations and team formation. [15 hours]
e. Assist with Rep ‘B’ tryouts. [20 hours]
f. Provide off season training and mentoring for our SSWR coaches, including, but not
necessarily limited to, coaching clinics. [75 hours]
g. Provide in-season mentoring for our U8 and U10 coaches and any other coach that
request it. [100 hours]
h. Mentor the coaches of the Super Mite team. [60 hours]
i. Host a summer camp for U10 and U12 players. [40 hours]
j. Attend executive meetings and special events as a member of staff. [25 hours]
Please note that the estimated hours of effort, shown in brackets, are a guideline only and
may be allocated as required.
2) Skills & experienced
The skills and experience listed below are offered as a guideline only. Please feel free to
provide details of any training or experience you feel would be applicable to the position.
a. Teacher’s certificate or equivalent.
b. Played and/or coached at a high level.
c. NCCP training at Competition Level.
d. Experience working with young children.

3) Remuneration
The Technical Director’s position is a paid contracted position. As a guideline we expect the
number contract hours to be roughly equivalent to a one quarter time position and the
contract fee to be roughly based on the salary of an elementary school teacher. The final
contract value will be derived through negotiations.
4) Contract Duration
The contract will be for the 2016 softball season starting mid October 2015 and running
through to August 31, 2016. It is the association’s sincere hope to build a long term
relationship with the successful proponent and we would hope that, by mutual agreement,
the contract would be extended to future seasons.
