Earth Ball- The goal of the group is to keep a beach ball or balloon in the
air for a specified number of hits without letting it hit the ground. The
students can just try or they can create a strategy, the only rule being that
one person cannot hit the ball twice in a row.
Back 2 Back- Split students up into teams or partners. Two players try to
get to the opposite side of the room with a balloon or foam ball in between
their backs. It can be played with a timer, seeing how many times each
team can get back and forth or played by counting the amount of balloons in
the finishing line bucket at the end of the game.
Where’s the Water Bottle? –
Heads Up- Seven students stand in front of the rest of the group, and the
rest put their head down on their desk. The seven students move around the
class and touch one student, who then puts their thumb up. Once the seven
students have returned to the front they say ‘Heads up seven up!’, then the
students with their thumbs up try to guess who touched them. If they guess
right they get to switch places and move to the front of the room.
Leaf Rubbings- Students find leaves, then place them under a sheet of
paper and gently color the whole area of paper that the leaf is under. It will
leave an impression of the entire leaf on the paper.
Name Pantomime- Everyone stands in a circle about arms distance apart
and thinks of a verb/action that starts with the same letter as they’re first
name (‘Jumping James’). Going around the circle, a person says their name
and verb while doing the action, everyone repeats it back and does the
action too. Go around again at a faster pace to really memorize names!
Cow GameAnimal Classification- Use a premade template or create one for students
to classify animals based upon a variety of characteristics (where do they
live? what do they eat? how big are they? etc.)
Banana Grams- Directions included with game.
Common Ground- Split students into teams and let them know they will
have a designated amount of time. Their goal is to come up with a list as
long as possible of the things they have in common, whoever can think of
the most things wins!
Kick Ball- Students should be split into two teams (around 9 is a perfect
amount to fill all positions). When a team is not kicking there should be a
catcher, pitcher, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base person and outfielders. The kickers
line up and kick in order, their goal is to kick the ball to a distance where
they are able to run as many bases as possible without getting ‘out’. The
other team can get them out by either: catching the ball midair, tagging the
running player with the ball (or the base before the runner makes it there),
or if a kicker misses three decent pitches. The team with the most runs at
the end of the game wins. Both teams having a turn to kick and play outfield
constitutes an inning, typically a game is 6 innings.
Draw-Pass it on- Everyone should have a piece of paper and sit in a circle.
Each player writes a short sentence on the top of their paper, then passes it
to the person on their right. Each person has one minute to draw an
interpretation of the sentence before passing it around for another turn. The
game is over when everyone receives their original paper and share with the
group. This game is fun to play with notebooks or small booklets so that
other players only see the cover and their own art until the end of the game.
