Wellness Division CLSHS Welcome! Department Philosophy We strive to provide the opportunity to engage in daily physical activity that students will enjoy for their lifetime. What does a Physically Educated Student look like? Understand how to be physically active. Understand why it is important to be physically active. Understands the curriculum that provides students activities and practices, so that students want to continue to be physically active. Why daily Physical Education Research shows how brain engagement and activity enhance the learning process. Improves overall well-being. Models a healthy lifestyle choice. Gives students the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities that they may not participate in outside of school. Opens them up to engage in new activities. Life long skills are promoted. Daily Expectations Uniforms: Please make sure you have a PE uniform for class. School issued shirt and shorts. Rentals: We offer a rental service if students do not have a uniform for the day. Locks: Each student needs a lock rented through the PE Department. They need to make sure they double check to make sure locks are locked securely. Engagement: Daily participation is expected. Students earn points based on completion of activity. This may be through self-assessment, peer assessment, and/or teacher assessment. Grading rubric is attached. CRYSTAL LAKE SOUTH PHYSICAL EDUCATION DAILY PERFORMANCE GRADING RUBRIC Non Choice/Fit Days 1. Cooperation Teamwork Sportsmanship 0 (Poor) Student was disrespectful and uncooperative to others during the lesson. 1 (Great) Student was respectful and cooperative to others during the lesson. 2. Safety Responsibility Student disregarded safety considerations during the lesson. Student followed safety considerations during the lesson. Student Followed teacher’s directions and rules during the lesson. Student participated in activities during the lesson. 3. Attitude Respect Behavior Student disregarded teacher’s directions and rules during the lesson. 4. Effort Activity Student was inactive in activities during the lesson. 5. Warm Up Proper form Student fails to follow the daily warm up routine. Student follows the daily warm up. Each class is worth 5 points towards their daily 80% Formative grade. Daily grades are based on these 5 areas. How will my grade be calculated? 20% is Summative assessment 80% is Formative assessments 20% Concept Days 20% Cardio-Vascular Days 20% Formative Assessment 20% Performance (Engagement in activity) 100% total PE grade Course Activities Activities that will be Choice options Fitness Testing Goal setting Mini Units Dist 155 Common Assessment The following tests will be completed at least 3 times during the school year. Tests include: Pacer test, Planks, Pushups, and Sit and Reach. The students will have access to their individual data. They will be using this data to set personal goals. Choice/Fit Days Each day is essentially a choice day. (During 2n-4th Quarters) However, certain activities will be in place to promote cardiovascular strength, endurance, and health. At the start of the semester we will fitness test. Based upon your individual fitness test results - you will be given a FIT Level. Certain FIT Levels, require you to choose a cardiovascular activity a certain number of times throughout the quarter. (See Chart) Failure to get the required FIT days results in a failure of class. Ultimately, the more effort you put forth for fitness testing, results in more true choice days for activity you want to do! Walking/Track Other options will be either on Fields or in the gyms Choice/Fit Grading Choice Day Grading/Card 1 point for prepared for class (dress, on time) and 1 point for participation. Dress - MUST have School issued PE Shirt and PE/CLS Athletic shorts. Shorts must be worn over yoga/leggings! NO JEANS of any type EVER! Must have athletic shoes.
