WORKING WITH IMAGES PICTURES & CLIPART Illustrations Group Inserting Images In Word you can insert several types of images into documents Pictures, e.g. Photos or Artwork you created Clip Art, e.g. Cartoons, Drawings, Photos and other images supplied by Microsoft (and others) with Word (installed on your PC) and online. To INSERT a picture from your PC 1. Place and Click the cursor where you want to insert the image 2. Click on the INSERT tab – Click on Picture 3. From the Insert Picture box move to the folder holding the picture. 4. Click to select the folder 5. Click on your Picture 6. Click on INSERT To INSERT Clipart 1. Place & Click the cursor where you want to insert the image 2. Click on the INSERT tab – click on Clip Art 3. The Clip Art task pane will open on the right of the screen 4. In “Search for” – type in what you are looking for e.g. Crown 5. Complete the next 2 boxes drop down boxes 6. Click GO 7. When the thumbnail images appear, right-click on image you want - which opens its menu then SELECT INSERT. (or just double click on image) 1 Adjusting size of images First CLICK on the IMAGE to show handles To adjust the size, click on a handle and drag it in our out. To keep it in proportion, drag on a corner handle. Moving an IMAGE You can move an Image if it has a moving handle plus an Anchor in the margin. These will show up when you move the mouse over the image. When you see it Click and hold the Left Mouse on the crosses arrows - then drag the image to where you want it. HOWEVER if you have just inserted an image the cross arrow symbol will NOT be available Set up TEXT WRAPPING to anything OTHER than “In Line with Text” see below FORMATTING an Image After inserting a picture or clip art, you can adjust its size and position, change its brightness, the contrast or the shades of colour, add a border or other effects. The tools are on the FORMAT RIBBON. The Tab for this ONLY appears when you CLICK on an IMAGE. CLICK on the TAB and the Format RIBBON appears Hover over a command for more information Most commands have a drop down menu – CLICK on it or the arrow to activate it. Try various commands to get the effect you want REMEMBER the IMAGE must be selected for the formatting will work on it. If Text wrapping is “IN LINE WITH TEXT” You cannot move the image without the text 2 The various text wrapping formats allow the Image and the Text to be in a variety of layouts The text may be around the image, to one side only, above or below, behind or in front. Adjust options Shape (triangle) Recoloured Contrast Border Crop image - remove part of the image: Click on the Crop button from the Format Ribbon. A broken black outline appears around the image Drag a black corner or line in and across to remove what you want to crop. Click the Crop button again to end the process. To restore the image, click the Crop button and pull the handle back out. Or use the UNDO or RESET buttons Multipule images To use 2 or more images together use the “Send to back “– “Bring to front “ commands to put the ladybird on top or under the picture 3
