Development and Implementation Laboratories Faculty of Electrical Engineering Czech Technical University in Prague Information about Laboratories Why Work With Us? Our laboratories for the development and implementation of the FEE CTU in Prague, was built to be a top of the line workplace. We are able to provide a comprehensive range of activities in the field of electronics. Our activities span from development through to production and even onwards towards measurement and functional testing. Within our laboratories we have unique instrumentation, knowledge and experience from both academia and practice available. More specifically, LVR can offer our customers: unique technology in development, production, measurement and testing unique non-destructive diagnostics technology turnkey project solutions use of the latest academic knowledge and findings in practice complete solutions from development to implementation and testing possibilities of implementation, some partial processes offered by LVR process management, planning, monitoring, and archiving of all activities information system support (contracts, projects, testing, storage, etc.) About LVR Lab 1/34 Unique Laboratory Technology Our laboratories consist of separate research & development and from clean rooms for implementation. The clean rooms are coupled with facilities for antistatic ESD protection reserved for implementation, testing, measurement, and diagnostics. Along with separate warehouse space, all clean rooms create an integrated ESP environment. All processes are supervised by information systems. Our laboratories also have a separate server to ensure their full activity, management, scheduling, archiving, and so on. Guaranteed Production Spaces Purity Our spaces are reserved for implementing the laboratory to guarantee production, diagnostics and a storage environment within an appropriate crystal clean operating room. Creating the desired purity in the relevant areas is provided by both multistage air filtration HEPA filters, along with using and maintaining constant pressure. Entry into the clean room during production has been secured allowing for migrating across the room via electronic mode of operation. All rooms are equipped with comprehensive resources, including ESD staff. Our clean rooms are designed to meet the standards and requirements of Class D according to EN ISO 14644. 2/34 About LVR Lab Research & Development LVR has various commercial licenses for development resources that enable both complex PCB design and also provide support for their testing. development tools for complex PCB design, working with production data, simulation and verification o Mentor Graphics, OrCAD, CAM350 development tools for the design of mechanical assemblies and subassemblies o AutoCAD development tools for the design of firmware (FW) - firmware boards for electronic devices o environment for the MCU and firmware design of FPGAs, CPLDs, including HW effective means to support testing o JTAG ProVision – including HW About LVR Lab 3/34 Mentor Graphics Mentor Graphics is a comprehensive development environment for PCB design with many complex tools including the possibility of different levels of simulation (e.g. circuit, temperature, frequency, etc.). This design system is comprised of interoperable modules making it possible to create your own scheme, simulation, and create PCB, as well as documentation. The MG design system is also linked to LVR‘s information system. It provides full support for staff development primarily through the following functions: schematic editor - for fast and intuitive schematic design PCB editor for creating and editing complex multi-layer PCBs, including creation of documentation (in Gerber 274D and 274X, NC Drill / Mill format) editor to support the creation of library elements possibility of hierarchal designs supporting circuit analysis and simulation types (such as DC analysis, AC analysis in time, frequency domains, etc.) About LVR Lab 5/34 CAM 350 In order to work with manufacturing data systems for the design of printed circuit boards (PCB), modification of production data, the possibility to have control over them as well as the data preparation process, our technology supporting the laboratories at LVR have made CAM 350 available. 6/34 About LVR Lab AutoCAD Our laboratories are also equipped with software tools for engineering and design work in 2D and 3D (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor). These assets allow the design of mechanical assemblies and subassemblies, mechanical drawing and editing work with designed cooperation with the means for designing PCBs. The CAD software among other benefits, provides the following options: parametric modeling of components creating sets and subsets able to generate drawings for 3D models library of mechanical components and parts including mechanical calculations catalogue creation decays formation of bent sheet metal components rendering and animation modules About LVR Lab 7/34 Development Tools For Creating Firmware Our laboratories also have their own developmental means of designing FW programmable circuits (MCU and FPGA CPLD) electronic equipment boards. There are five types of development environments for different types of microprocessors - MCU programmable logic FPGA, and CPLD. It‘s main features include: automatic generation of boundary-scan test use open-source scripting language, Python, for sophisticated testing library models boundary-scan components script library JFT (JTAG FunctionalTest) The Department of Implementation The Development and Implementation Laboratories Department of Implementation consists of four mutually separate rooms. The first room (section A, see page 28) is the entrance room to the purity spaces of the Department of Implementation (section C). This room has it‘s own production area which is composed of the following equipment described below. The two remaining rooms are directly linked to section C and in section B there is a separate storage room and in section D a separate Diagnostic & Testing Section of the Laboratories. About LVR Lab 9/34 All of the rooms are ESD compatible with anti-static devices and with defined purity spaces required for SMT production and diagnostics of small series. Defined purity is achived through a steady pressure of air via 3-stage air filtering in all rooms. The Department of Implementation offers the possibility to completely implement the entire manufacturing process starting from applying the paste, followed by casting and soldering PCB, plus cleaning and ending with final adjustments, repairs or special PCB. The following devices are available from the department. 10/34 Semi-Automatic Screen Printing Machine PBT A23 with Automatic Process Control SMT Pick & Place Machine Essemtec FLX 2011 V Vapor Phase Soldering Machine IBL SLC 509 Automatic Spray Cleaning System PBT Super SWASH II Auto Dry Cabinet X-TREME XTC-510-S2 SMT / BGA Rework Machine ERSA IRPL 650 A About LVR Lab Semi-Automatic Screen Printing Machine PBT A23 with Automatic Process Control The Semi-Automatic Screen Printing Machine PBT A23 is a precision stencil printing machine for very fine structures in the SMT process designed primarly for small and mid-size production with extremely high focus on alignment precision, volume accuracy and process stability. Due to it’s smart control system, this machine can be operated by qualified staff very easily and effectively. The software follows achieved alignment precision and blocks the start of the printing cycle until the stencil matches the substrate with required accuracy. General Information: the semi-automatic centering system consists of 2 color cameras with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and a picture magnification of 27x the centering process runs with the stencil and substrate in contact and after reaching the required match, the stencil does not move against the substrate any more. a precisely guided telescopic print table for easy and fast substrate loading/unloading. X-Y and angular micro-adjust table typical cycle time, including PCB loading and unloading, is 30 sec. maximum clearance under PCB for 1st side components is 24 mm very easy and intuitive control through PC Parameters of PCB: maximum PCB dimension up to 400 x 395 mm maximum print area 390 x 360 mm maximum print frame dimension 584 x 584 mm, height 25 – 30 mm PCB thickness range from 0.5 to 4.0 mm About LVR Lab 11/34 Auto Dry Cabinet X-TREME XTC-510-S2 An ideal solution for drying, baking, storing & testing Moisture Sensitive Devices. Auto Dry Cabinet is suitable for almost all dehumidification applications. Cabinet X-TREME has a precise control system for achieving and maintaining an accurate ultra-low humidity of 1 % RH with an ultra-fast dehumidification rate. The ambient temperature reaches a maximum of up to 40 °C and is adjustable with heating for low temperature baking. Intelligent, programmable feeders can be changed during operation. Essemtec FLX 2011 V is optimized for maximum flexibility. The user can switch from one product to another in no time and get maximum use of the available production capacity. General Information: FLX is a full modular system with many options such as vision alignment, integrated dispensing system, and so on. This Soldering System has unique two chamber technology for low energy and fluid consumption and easy operation due to automatic soldering and a patented process. The machine can be configured as a completely closed system without continuous waste. The special configuration of its‘ hot air drying system is effective and energy-saving. Thanks to its‘ extremely high cleaning efficiency it is possible to apply this equipment to high-density misprints and PCB cleaning after soldering. The control system includes all process parameters, main processes are adaptively controlled with automatic correction of cleaning times upon the cleaning and rinsing media parameters. The prescribed cleaning quality is always reached and monitored. General Information: 16/34 cleaning system for stencils, misprints, PCB defluxing and other fine cleaning 3 – 4 stage process with reclaim of all media in the machine parallelly travelling manifolds with programmable travel distance assures uniform cleaning force along the space and highly balanced hydraulic forces from the jet nozzles totally closed system without continuous waste main cleaning processes are adaptively controlled with automatic correction drying by means of hot air knives reaches temperatures up to 120 °C, while the chamber itself remains cold machine is controlled by means of PC, through WINDOWS 7, and the interface is a colour touch screen for cleaning VIGON A 201, a water-based defluxing agent for high pressure cleaning processes is used rinsing of DI (Deionized Water) and water with conductivity measurement About LVR Lab Cleaning Parameters: maximum dimensions of objects to be cleaned are 815 x 75 x 780 mm maximum temperature of cleaning is 60 °C maximum temperature of rinsing is 40 °C maximum temperature of drying is 120 °C typical cycle time depends on the application, for washing 3 to 5 mins, rinsing is approximately 2 mins and drying takes 5 to 10 mins SMT / BGA Rework Machine ERSA IRPL 650 A The ERSA IR/PL 650 A, which is also available at LVR, is an excellent rework machine for large and complex PCBs. This machine requires the least amount of operator dependence and therefore guarantees a stable and repeatable rework process for all applications. The IR Rework system is broken down into four distinct operational modules: the Selective Reflow module, the Reflow Process Camera module, the Precision Placement module and the Software module. This Rework system has DynamicIR Heating Technology for selective and precise heating of PCBs. DynamicIR Heating Technology has 9 programmable top & bottom heating zones boasting a total of 4600 W of power. Precise, easy to use motorized Auto Pick & Place affords the highest quality placement. The D&T section has instrumentation available for electrical measurements and testing as well as functional testing necessary for regular development of the department. As a unique nondestructive diagnostic system an X-ray Inspection System si available with computerized tomograpy and automatic optical inspection. Automatic Optical Inspection Marantz iSpector HDL 650 X-ray Inspection System GE Phoenix Nanomex 180T with CT Electrical Measurement & Testing and Functional Testing Stereo Inspection Microscope Automatic Optical Inspectuion Marantz iSpector HDL 650 In order to provide automatic optical inspection of PCB (inter-process inspection, final inspection, etc.) within the LVR laboratories, we have made our modern performance inspection iSpector HDL 650 available. iSpector HDL 650 is a powerful next-generation Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) system unifyng the renowned optical performance of the HDL series with the flexibility and accuracy of the iSpector platform. Not only expertly supporting large board sizes up to 650 mm x 550 mm, iSpector HDL 650’s has advanced technology including a custom image sensor, proprietary lenses and lighting technology combined to deliver truly outstanding image quality. Flexible inspection support is available at every stage of the assembly process, from checking solder paste deposition after printing, all the way through to validating component and solder joint integrity after reflow or wave soldering. It also provides a detailed analysis of high resolution image data captured and processed in full 24-bit colour, alonge with easier programming and exceptional defect detection. This system provides both 2D X-ray inspection and the possibility of using full 3D computer tomography. All equipment is used by laboratory staff to achive the highest quality and reliability. Our laboratories have been equipped with above standard measuring instrumentation in correspondence to normally equipped research and the development of the department‘s accuracy and range. 24/34 About LVR Lab Stereo Inspection Microscopes In our laboratories two modern stereo microscopes for manual optical inspection are available. The first stereo microscope MANTIS ELITE allows magnification up to 20x without a PC connection. The second stereo microscope LYNX provides up to 120x magnification and is equipped with an additional 1.3 Mpix digital color camera with high resolution and fast-CMount thread. The camera communicates via USB with a separate PC that has special software installed to allow fox-pixel display, measuring and archiving. To achieve higher quality images any acquired inspection can use a digital SLR Canon which has a special adapter to connect to this microscope. These facilities meet the demanding requirements for clean production facilities and meet the requirements of Class D according to ISO 14644. Moreover, they definitely meet the requirements for a crystal clean and dust-free environment.
