Role Purpose
The Irish-owned Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) industry sector is ever evolving and
adapting to new international opportunities, new delivery channels and new technologies. The
sector has significant potential for further growth. Enterprise Ireland’s key challenge is to drive the
sector to ensure it delivers the maximum economic impact for Ireland. The majority of EI client
companies in the sector, including a number of large companies, are regionally based and are of
significant importance to Enterprise Ireland’s Strategy 2017-2020 and Enterprise Ireland’s
Regional Strategy.
The Senior Development Adviser will work with client companies in BPO and related sectors to
maximise their growth potential, thereby generating significant export income and jobs in Ireland.
The role will involve proactively and systematically working with BPO companies on an individual
and group basis to implement a work programme which will deliver on agreed targets and metrics
and developing a strong partnership with the existing BPO group of companies to deliver specific
sector development initiatives.
Key Deliverables








Lead on the development of Enterprise Ireland strategy and associated operational plans for
the BPO sector which closely aligns with Enterprise Ireland’s Brexit Strategy, Enterprise
Ireland’s Regional Strategy and Enterprise Ireland’s Strategic Plan 2017-2020.
Manage a portfolio of clients in the BPO and related sectors, including large company clients,
to assist them to grow and scale their businesses.
Advise and support the portfolio of clients to undertake a diagnostic evaluation of their
business needs and address challenges and opportunities across the areas of strategy,
people and organisation development, sales and marketing, operations, innovation and
finance.
Promote offers that are relevant to client needs, develop a prospects pipeline and provide
feedback on business plans in line with Enterprise Ireland’s Client Engagement (Accelerate)
model. Negotiate and carry out detailed financial and commercial assessments of investment
proposals and present the investment propositions to the appropriate funding committees in
Enterprise Ireland.
Facilitate and further develop the Enterprise Ireland funded “Crios Group” (BPO Cluster)
working with the Cluster to develop collaborative work streams including Innovation, Skills,
Internationalisation and others as appropriate.
Develop an awareness of Ireland as a location for the delivery of service excellence in BPO.
In this context, develop and support a calendar of activity and support across the BPO sector
in Ireland and overseas, including the production of on-line marketing collateral delivered
through various channels that supports the roll out of the BPO banner brand internationally.
Collaborate with relevant colleagues across Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland and relevant
representative bodies to deliver on an agreed vision for BPO in terms of jobs, sales and
exports.
Improve the sector’s innovative and technical competencies by supporting capability
improvement among BPOs in key areas such as data analytics and innovative business
model in conjunction with relevant EI R&I colleagues, Technology Centres and Gateways to
deliver value to the BPO cluster.



Support the BPO competitiveness development agenda to enable BPOs deliver consistent,
high quality performance at management and operational level.
Coach and mentor other staff members to strengthen the wider Enterprise Ireland team’s
knowledge and expertise of the sector.
Represent Enterprise Ireland at public fora associated with the BPO and related sectors.
Functional Competencies (Key Skills and Knowledge)












Experience of working in/with Internationally Trading Services companies, with the ability to
demonstrate a strong understanding of the BPO sector, is essential.
Proven ability to work effectively with companies to develop and articulate business plans, to
professionally evaluate these business plans and to prepare and present cases for Enterprise
Ireland investment support is essential.
Ability to understand, analyse and take a strategic perspective on industry/market trends,
technologies and sector opportunities and lead the development of sectoral plans.
Excellent understanding and experience of innovative service business models, structures
and the phases of company development for large client companies.
Knowledge of the challenges facing large service companies when internationalizing.
Understanding of Enterprise Ireland’s client engagement process and the Enterprise Ireland
financial and services offer to clients.
Good experience and understanding of the 6 business areas assessed in the Client
Engagement Model diagnostic - strategy, people and organisation development, sales and
marketing, operations, innovation and finance.
Experience in analysing the key drivers of growth for medium and large service companies
and introducing supports that will lead to company growth.
Ability to develop and support an industry “cluster”, including the ability to benchmark
competitive industry clusters in other jurisdictions and identify and introduce new types of
supports aimed at the BPO cluster.
Strong ability to work with and include stakeholders, both internal and external, in the
development of plans and projects to deliver on different aspects of the strategy.
Strong project management skills
A relevant 3rd level qualification would be desirable.

essential part of the job that will require some engagement outside of Enterprise
Ireland’s normal business hours.

Salary Scale:
€65,093 to €77,358 per annum contributory superannuation
Rising to €81,914 by long service increments.
€62,962 to €73,611 per annum non-contributory superannuation
Rising to €77,988 by long service increments
Candidates should note that entry will be at the minimum of the relevant scale and the rate of
remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Subject to
satisfactory performance, increments may be payable in line with current Government Policy.
