Number bond tennis
The three tennis racquet heads can be laminated
and, using double-sided tape, attached onto the
colourful side of an old CD, (so that silver side is
showing).
Thick craft sticks can be attached using gaffer
tape on the back of a CD (see photo).
 Children stand in two teams, facing a partner (try to make sure they are matched
according to ability).

First two children are holding bats, plus teacher has one.

The teacher decides if the number bonds are to 20, 50, 100 etc and then she
calls out a number and pretends to hit the ball.

The children holding the bats shout out the required number bond. An example
for bonds to 50 would be if the teacher shouts 34, the first child to say 16 wins
the point. (The children can pretend to hit the imaginary ball back when
shouting out the number.) It is most fun if tennis scoring is used, and a child can
keep score on the board until all pairs of children have had a turn.

 Below are editable
cards which can be
used for paired, group
or individual work, or
when completed other
activities.
 Sheet 2 is for you to
insert your own total.
You will have to
change the font size
on the tennis ball if
you wish to insert a
number with more
digits than two. Sheet
3 is for totals of 50.
Example:
Split rings are useful for
keeping sets of cards
together.
