Curriculum for Excellence
The Philosophy of our Curriculum Structure
Our S1 curriculum is designed to support the
transition from P7 and prepare pupils for further
study in S2 and S3.
Our S2/3 curriculum is designed to allow pupils to
continue to enjoy a broad, general education and
provide opportunities to developing their skills,
strengths and interests more fully.

S1 Curriculum
A Common Course
All pupils study all subjects.
A broad general education is provided that allows
pupils to engage with all the different areas of
learning and teaching within Duncanrig.
Pupils get a thorough grounding in all curriculum
areas and the opportunity to begin to develop skills
for life, learning and work.

S2/3 Curriculum
Core plus Electives Model
Core 1:
English, Maths, Modern Languages, PE,
PSE, RME. Every week.
Core 2: All other subjects delivered as Interdisciplinary Rotations of 6 periods per
week for 10 weeks (S2) and 8 weeks (S3).
Electives: Pupils choose 7 subjects they would like
to study in more depth for 2 periods each
week.

Core plus Electives Model
Pupils get the opportunity to shape their individual
curriculum.
A broad, general education is maintained through the
Core areas whilst the Elective subjects give pupils the
opportunity develop their knowledge and skills more
fully within those subjects that interest them most
and are considering studying further in the Senior
Phase.
