PRESENTATION
Roma Tre was founded in November 1992 and now, in its 13th academic year, with
over 40.000 students, has the size of an average Italian university. The Schools (Faculties)
are: Architecture, Economics, Education, Engineering, Law, Letters and Philosophy, Political
Science, Natural Sciences including Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geology. There are
almost 110 degree courses, while research is carried on in 26 Departments in most scientific
branches.
The present Rector is Prof. Guido Fabiani. Prof. Roberto Pujia is the Institutional Coordinator for the Socrates Programme. Teaching staff and researchers number about 800.
Roma Tre is an active participant in the European Union exchange programmes.
During the academic year 2003/2004 about 470 Roma Tre Socrates/Erasmus students
attended courses in partner universities abroad for study periods between 3 and 10 months
and about 500 European students arrived here. So far Humanities, followed by
Architecture, have been the most popular subject areas, but Economics, Law and Political
Science are starting to attract more mobility. Some Departments have relationships with
European and non-European institutions through bilateral co-operation agreements
(experimental science projects, faculty exchanges, co-operation projects with developing
countries, etc.).
The University buildings are easily reachable by underground (Metro). Almost all
University locations are in the Ostiense area as well as the Administration building
(Rettorato), with the International Relations Office (Ufficio Relazioni Internazionali) and an
Assistance Office (Centro Accoglienza e Servizi).
THE UNIVERSITY REFORM
The legislative decree of the Minister for Universities and Scientific and Technological
Research n°. 509 of 3rd November 1999 began a radical reform process of the national
university system with the purpose of both standardising courses and corresponding
qualifications at a European level and keeping university studies within congruous limits at
each level thus making it easier for graduates to find employment.
The reform divides the Italian university system into different types of courses, these
two cycles take on a primary role:
Three year DEGREE courses have the objective of providing students with a good
basic preparation and specific professional knowledge.
Two year post graduate SPECIALISED DEGREE courses can be undertaken after
obtaining a degree (this is why the 3+2 system is referred to)and have the objective of
providing students with further education for highly qualified positions in specific areas.
To integrate these two fundamental cycles universities can introduce further courses
such as:
· MASTERS (MU) of the first and second level , courses of scientific- professional
specialisation which it is possible to follow after obtaining a degree or specialised degree.
· SPECIALISATION courses (DS) with the objective of providing students with the
knowledge and ability required to carry out certain professional activities in accordance
with what is expected by specific European Union laws or directives.
· RESEARCH DOCTORATES (DR) studies directed at the in depth study of research
4
methodology and advanced scientific preparation in different scientific sectors, access to
these studies is through a public competition after obtaining a SPECIALISED DEGREE.
Furthermore, the so called UNIVERSITY CREDITS (CFU) have been established
through the reform, in other words the total number of hours of study by each student (
hours of individual study, lessons, laboratory, practice sessions) Thus a “value” is given to
the student’s time: each credit corresponds to 25 hours of work.
The average amount of time spend learning in a year by a student in full time
university education is generally fixed at 60 credits. Therefore to follow a (three year)
DEGREE the student must acquire 180 credits (60 credits x 3 years); to follow a
SPECIALISED DEGREE the students needs 300 credits (meaning 180 credits of the three year
DEGREE plus a further 120 credits).
Credits have the function of:
 allowing students a greater autonomy in deciding their programme of studies
 facilitating the movement of students from one university to another (also
outside of Italy), favouring the recognition of university qualifications abroad.
Credits do not substitute exam marks which continue to be out of a maximum of
thirty. Each activity (teaching, laboratory, seminar etc.) which forms part of the course is
given a certain number of credits which is the same for all students who pass the exam, and
a different mark is given according to the preparation of the student. The credits indicate
the quantity, the marks indicate the quality of the student’s work.

DOCUMENT TO BRING WITH YOU TO ROMA TRE
 your ID card or passport;
 medical insurance (before departing for Italy check whether there is any agreement with
Italy for free health services, like the E 111 form)
 proof of your Erasmus status indicating the length of your stay;
Do not forget to bring with you:
 at least 2 passport photos;
 International Student Card to proves your eligibility for student discounts;
 some EUROS for your immediate needs.
WHAT TO DO ON ARRIVAL IN ROME
From Fiumicino airport you can reach the city centre by local train with departures
every 20 minutes and stops in various stations of the city. The cost of a ticket is about €
4,70. At Fiumicino there is also a non-stop train, called “Leonardo Express”, to Termini
Railway Station, the central station of Rome (cost: € 9.50). A taxi ride from Fiumicino
Airport to our office in via Ostiense costs about € 36,00.
The best connection from Ciampino Airport –which is closer to Rome but with less
connections – to the city centre is a taxi from the airport to Ciampino railway station (a
short ride):this is the place where you can get the train line FM4 “CIAMPINO - ROMA
TERMINI”: there is one every 20 minutes. From Termini follow the directions below.
To get to the Ufficio Relazioni Internazionali from Termini Railway Station take
Underground (Metro) Line B, direction “Laurentina”, get off at Garbatella; exit on via
Ostiense, turn left and walk to the “ARGONAUTA” Building (approximately 200 m), our
Office is located on the 7th floor - elevator C. The ticket costs € 1 and can be purchased at
newspaper stands or from the ticket vending machines at Metro stations.
If you are carrying heavy luggages it is a good idea to leave it at the Termini
“Deposito Bagagli”(left luggage) located up to the platforms 1 and 22. The opening time is
at 7.00 a.m. until midnight. The price is 3,10€ per 5 hours. If you are really in a hurry and
you absolutely want to get out from the Station you could even take a taxi: but remember
that in Roma taxi rides are more expensive than in other European countries. From the
airport, for instance, a ride could cost from a minimum of 40,00€ to a maximum of
90,00€ depending on where you have to go. Always try to avoid using taxies between
7.00 a.m. and 10.00a.m. and between 4.00p.m. and 6.30p.m.: the traffic jam, from and to
Rome, could let you arrive later than train and let you pay much more!
6

In the Libretto degli Studi (record of your studies abroad) you have to record your
original study plan as well as the courses and examinations you will actually take at Roma
Tre. Contact your subject area Co-ordinator within your first two weeks in Rome. He or
she will advise you on what courses to take and will sign the appropriate Libretto section
(Progetto di studio). After attending a whole course ask your teacher to fill in the course
section (Programmi effettuati) and register your final exam results (Esami sostenuti).
Your student registration number (numero di matricola) which must be indicated on
the first page of the libretto, is given by the Segreteria Studenti (Foreign Students’ Desk, Mrs
Nerina Piras), Via Ostiense 175, Monday Wednesday Friday from 10am to 12.30pm. Go
there within a week from your arrival.
TAX NUMBER AND RESIDENCE PERMIT
You need an Italian Tax number (Codice Fiscale) to obtain the University Canteens
Card and to open a bank account should you wish to do so.
European Union citizens may reside in Italy for three months without a Residence
Permit (Permesso di Soggiorno) from the Italian Police. Explain that to your
landlord/landlady if he/she asks you to show it before signing a lease. If you are staying in
Rome for longer than three consecutive months, go to the Questura di Roma, Ufficio
Stranieri, via Teofilo Patini angolo via Salviati neighbourhood Tor Cervara (Tor Sapienza) ,
open from Mondays to Fridays 8.30am - 11.30am, Tuesdays and Thursdays 3pm – 5pm tel.
06.46863098 (Information Office) and apply for the Permit. The web site is:
http://questure.poliziadistato.it/Roma.nsf. This may be a time-consuming procedure. Bring:

7
 the E 111 form;
 Roma Tre Erasmus registration certificate.
You will be given a provisional card to be used as proof of your application until the
actual permit is issued.
HEALTH INSURANCE
You should have an E 111 form from your country or any equivalent form. The ASL
(Aziende Sanitarie Locali) provide health services and are located all around the city
(Circoscrizioni). You may register at your area ASL with tesserino STP “Servizi Sanitari per
Stranieri Temporaneamente Presenti”, which entitles you to register with a family doctor
and to undergo medical tests. To register bring:
 your ID card/passport;
 the E 111 form;
 Roma Tre Erasmus registration certificate.
However you do not need to have registered to be admitted to the Casualty
Department. There they will ask you for an identity document and for your E 128 form.
There is a Pronto Soccorso (Casualty Department) is available in every hospital.
Guardia Medica Permanente, Tel. 06.5815557, provides an emergency home service.
If you have private health insurance follow its instructions.
For further information about health services for foreign people in Rome, you can
consult the web page: http://www.regione.lazio.it/sanita/assistenza/stranieri/stranieri.shtml
LIVING IN ROME
ACCOMMODATION
Finding accommodation in Rome is always difficult, especially for less than an
academic year. Roma Tre does not own halls of residence. Erasmus students have to find
accommodation on the open market. Because of the size and the traffic of the city the
availability of a good bus and underground transport is vital. Be flexible in your demands
and be aware that the market offers more shared rooms than single rooms. In addition
landlords/landladies may expect you to agree to strict rules regarding as guests, parties,
damage reimbursements, etc. Before signing a lease be sure you understand clearly what
you are supposed to do and not to do.
Monthly prices for a single room vary from a minimum of € 300,00 to a maximum
of € 500,00 depending on the area and on the amenities offered. A deposit is always
required. Utilities such as electricity, gas and heating may be extra make sure you know
exactly what bills you may expect. Remember that in Italy bills come every two months.
Normally, with a temporary lease, you are not responsible for any other fees, such as
building maintenance, water and garbage disposal charges.
Telephone: some student apartments have no telephone. Landlords/landladies fear
8
having to pay huge bills which arrive after students have returned home. This is also why
occasionally telephones may be installed only to receive and not to make calls. Don't feel
too bad about this. Purchase a telephone card and use public phones which are located
everywhere.
Please note that if you suddenly want to change your room/shared apartment you
should inform the landlord/landlady and your flat mates well in advance (at least 1 month
before) so to give them time to find a replacement. It will be your responsibility to find a
new accommodation. You can go to “Associazione Erasmus e3”, a student network that
cares with foreign students assistance and help to find accomodation.
UNIVERSITY CANTEENS
University canteens (mense) provide nutritious, very low cost meals. It is much
cheaper to eat there than to prepare a meal at home. Canteens are popular gathering places
for Erasmus and Italian students alike. University canteens are subsidised and are run by
ADISU, Azienda Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario, which handles student
services.
Students of the Faculties of Architecture and Education can go to five canteens of “La
Sapienza” University. To get a University Canteen Card (Tessera Mensa) you must go to
ADISU, via Cesare De Lollis 20, open from Mondays to Thursday, 9am – 3pm., and Friday,
9am-12am. Bring:
 ADISU form duly filled in
 Your Tax Number (Codice Fiscale)
 Roma Tre Erasmus Registration Certificate.
You will receive a university canteen card.
“La Sapienza” canteens are located in:





Via del Castro Laurenziano, 9
Via Cesare De Lollis, 20
Via D. De Dominicis, 13
Viale Ministero Affari Esteri, 6
Via delle Sette Sale, 29
Students who attend courses at all other Faculties can go to the canteens in the S.
Paolo area.A University Canteen Card is issued by the Roma Tre ADISU Office. You must
bring your Codice Fiscale, your Roma Tre Erasmus Certificate and your ADISU form, duly
filled in, to the Roma Tre ADISU office, Via della Vasca Navale 79/81; open from Mondays
to Fridays, 9,00am-13,00pm
Roma Tre canteens are located in:
 Via Vasca Navale, 79
 Pontificio Oratorio San Paolo, Viale San Paolo, 12
University canteens are open from Mondays to Saturdays, from mid-September to
the 20 of July. They are closed Saturday nights and holidays. Working hours: lunch from
th
9
11.45am to 2.45pm; dinner (not in all the canteens) from 6.45pm to 9.00pm They are most
crowded between 1pm and 2pm.
COST OF LIVING
The average monthly expenditure for an Erasmus student in Italy is about € 500,00,
but your Erasmus grant is worth about € 150,00. This means that you will probably need
more than double your Erasmus grant, excluding your travel expenses. Note that Italian
students on their own in Rome spend at least € 450,00 a month.
Your biggest expense, which will probably be higher than in your country, will be for
accommodation. However, given the very low cost of University meals your average room
and board expense might be the same or even lower. Public transportation, with the
exception of taxis, is not expensive. Entertainments in general tend to be expensive. If you
are lucky (but don't count on that!) it may be possible to find temporary work such as
baby-sitting, language teaching, translations, etc. Au-pair positions may also be available.
To give you a better idea of how much things cost:
 a daily newspaper
€ 0,90
 a priority mail stamp
€ 0,60
 a "cappuccino"
€ 0,80
 a litre of milk
€ 1,20
 a kilo of bread
€ 1,50
 a cinema ticket
€ 7,50 ( €5 on Wednesday)
LEISURE TIME
The city of Rome offers many occasions to spend the time enjoying yourself:

Museums and monuments: with the Erasmus status you get free entrances or reductions
for museums and monuments. The timetable can vary depending on the periods of the
year and on the days of the week: it’s better to check a good city guide.
Please note that the District of Rome organizes, at least once a month, the so-called
“Ecological Sundays”, days when cars can’t circulate around the city centre. It is a good
chance to enjoy the artistic beauties of the city, walking around freely or to rent a bike.

Shopping: shops are opened everyday (except for Sunday and Monday morning). The
opening and closing time is around from 10am to 1pm and from 4pm to
7.30pm/8pm.Remember that many shops situated in the central areas of the city are
opened all day long inclunding Sunday.

Cinemas and Theatres: cinemas show all the best Italian and International screenings.
Please note that the movies are shown in Italian language: you can also find cinemas
that show movies in original language, sometimes with subtitles. Ticket price is €7,50;
10
on wednesday you can pay €5 in all the cinemas. With the University of Roma3 status
you can get a reduction on the price, in some cinemas, especially in the ones situated
near the University. Please note that this does not apply for all cinemas and that you
may need to show your Erasmus student status.

Eating out: Restaurants, pizzerie, “tavole calde” or the typical “trattorie”: these are the
places where you can taste the delicious Roman cook. The price for an average meal (
that includes a first dish, second dish or side dish plus beverages) is between €15 and
€20. Please note that restaurant’s kitchens close around midnight: it’s better do not stay
longer to eat; that is to avoid unpleasant treatments! You can find many other places
dedicated to the young “night-lovers”, where you can eat anytime of the night.

Entertainments: pubs and discos, jazz, rock or “exotic” clubs: you have a big choice to
spend the night in the best way! Nightlife is full especially from Thursday to Sunday. In
some clubs you may be requested to pay the entrance, depending on the organization
of that night. But the most part of them are free-entrance.
The neighbourhoods where you can find different opportunities of entertainments are:
Testaccio (Monte de’ Cocci), Ostiense (Libetta Village) and Trastevere.
During summer time we advise you to visit Ostia seafront, a little resort easly to reach
with train leaving from Piramide station.
Tickets for cultural events, theatres and concerts can be purchased at SICS. Information for
seminaries, courses and laboratories can be also found here. The SICS office is located in the
faculty of Humanities.
BANKING
Banks are open from Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am to 1.45pm; in the afternoons
they only open from 3pm to 4pm, although the afternoon schedule may vary slightly from
bank to bank.
For a temporary resident in Italy it may be complicated to open a bank account. If
you plan to regularly receive money by bank draft from abroad, the simplest and cheapest
way is to open a Libretto di Risparmio (savings account). However, this will not provide
cheque books which are given only if you open a current account (Conto Corrente
Ordinario). You may be interested in knowing that Banca di Roma handles our University
accounts. Tell them you are a student at Roma Tre and show the following documents:
 your Residence Permit (Permesso di Soggiorno) or proof of application;
 your Tax number (Codice Fiscale);
 your ID card/passport;
 proof of your Erasmus status.
To transfer money from abroad via bank draft, give your Rome account number, the
Bank code (for Banca di Roma: ABI 03002) and the appropriate CAB (Codice di
Avviamento Bancario) indicating to which branch office in Rome you want the money to
be transferred. Do not expect it to be a fast procedure.
Any other bank you may choose would have a similar procedure.
11
POSTAL SERVICES
Post Offices are open from Mondays to Fridays from 8.25am. to 6.50pm. and on
Saturday morning until 12pm.. Stamps can also be purchased at tobacconists’.The Vatican
Post Offices guarantee a much faster service for foreign post: they are situated near St.
Peter’s and they have the same opening times as Italian Post Offices.
Money can be transferred from abroad via International Money Orders (vaglia
internazionali) payable at the main Post Offices.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Metropolitana (tube): the Metro service of Rome is composed by two lines, that
connect all the areas of the city: line A ( orange- coloured) and line B ( blue- coloured).
At Termini’s station you can change the line. Bus-Metro tickets (BIT) cost € 1 and are
valid only for one ride: remember to stamp your ticket before your first ride and again
on your last trip. Tickets can only be purchased at tobacconists’, newstands and ticket
vending machines located inside the metro stations.
You can find a whole day ticket (BIG) that costs € 4 and gives you unlimited use of
transports for one day (that is until midnight of the day you have stamped it). If you are a
daily public transport user you can save money and time with a weekly pass (€16) or a
monthly pass (€30 for students) for bus and Metro (Tessera Metrebus) purchasable at the
beginning of the week or of the month. You have to write your name and date of birth on
it.
Beware! Bus and Metro inspectors do random spot checks and if you get caught without
a ticket the fine is € 51,00! ATTENTION: Remember to take always with you your
record of studies.
Metro trains run from 5.30am. until 11.30pm. On Saturday until midnight. In both cases this
refers to departures from their starting point.

Autobus and Tram: they are signed by numbers and by the indication of the last stop
they are going to ( capolinea). The ticket is the same for metro and is valid for
75minutes. Buses run from 5,30 until midnight. At night their frequency is much
reduced.
There may be a reduced train and bus service can be reduced on January 1 and on
May 1 (Labour Day).
Warning: you should be extra careful especially on public transport and at Termini
Station where (as in almost every big city) most pick-pocketing occurs. It is a good idea to
carry only a photocopy of your identity document and not too much money; also, to keep
Credit Cards and Traveller's Cheques data safely at home. If your documents or cheques are
stolen or lost you must report it to the Police.
12
“Tuttocittà”, the city guide attached to the telephone book carries information on
public transport.
Licenced taxis are white, have a name, an identification number, and are equipped
whit a taxi-meter. Do not trust people who approach you offering private taxi service. In
most cases they are illegal and will heavily overcharge you. The taxi-meter must be turned
on upon departure. Outside the city (beyond the GRA, Rome’s ring) different prices are
applied; please remember that in this case the taxi-meter is turned on when the taxi picks
up the call. Supplements (for luggage, for night or holiday service, for the airport) are
added to the price of the ride.
Bicycles and motorbikes can be rented in various parts of the city.
Train tickets and reservations are available at no extra charge from travel agencies. If
you are under 26 years of age and you often travel by train purchase a “Carta Verde”
(Green Card), that costs €30, and you will get a good discount on your ticket: this card is
valid for a whole year and it is purchaseble at the ticket office or at the Trenitalia agencies.
You need to show your ID Card. Before boarding the train remember to stamp your ticket
at the machines near each platform. Otherwise you may be liable for a fine.
PUBLIC TELEPHONES
It is a good idea to purchase telephone cards (schede telefoniche) from tobacconists
and newspaper stands because some public telephones do not accept coins. An average
telephone call within the city (duration: 6 minutes) costs € 0,10.
To make a collect call abroad dial 15 and ask to make a reverse call (chiamata R).
You may have to spell foreign names very slowly (curiously enough Italian telephone
operators are likely to spell using initials of geographical names, for example: Meuris will be
Milano/Empoli/Udine/Roma/Italia/Savona. This can be somewhat confusing).
CLIMATE
Because of its central position in the Italian peninsula Rome enjoys a mild climate:
Winter temperatures are seldom as low as in the North and Summer temperatures are never
as high as in the South; the hottest month is in July. Normally you need jumpers plus a
heavy parka/jacket and a raincoat in the Winter. In the month of October, when central
heating may not be on, it can be warmer outdoors than indoors.
13
CITY INFORMATION
Azienda di Promozione Turistica del Comune di Roma, via Parigi, 5 - next to Piazza
della Repubblica - has free maps and tourist brochures. You can buy at the newstands the
weekly “Roma c’è”, or the Thursday section “Trovaroma” of the “La Repubblica
“newspaper.
UNIVERSITY INFORMATION
ORIENTATION
You are likely to find the Italian system quite different from your own University and
therefore you may have difficulty adjusting especially at the beginning. You also need to
rely on your personal initiative: do not hesitate to solicit information, check all bulletin
boards, ask professors and other students. Student/teacher relations may also appear more
formal than what you are used to. If you arrive at the beginning of the academic year, you
are also likely to find the system slow to get underway.
Your local Socrates subject area co-ordinator is the first person for you to contact.
However, he/she may not be able to answer all your queries concerning your study
programme. Contents of specific courses, professors' office hours, etc. might also be initially
hard to get. Do not panic! Remember that one of the tasks of the Ufficio Relazioni
Internazionali is to assist you in this initial phase by advising you where and when to go and
whom to see, and that the Socrates Institutional Co-ordinator is available to meet you on
appointment.
Erasmus students come with different study projects at Roma Tre. Some are required
to take examinations, some must simply write final papers, others do thesis research. Those
who must take courses with final examinations often expect courses to have the same
title/content as the ones they would take at home. This is not always realistic. Be patient:
you may have to consult with several professors but you will certainly come up with a list
14
of courses to fulfil your home university requirements.
ACADEMIC CALENDAR
The Italian university academic year is from October 1st to Septemberber 30th. The
first semester starts mid-September/October and ends about 20th December. The second
semester starts 1st March and ends 31st May/June. Those dates do not include examinations.
In February there is a long recess for mid-year examinations.
Rember to check the web site of the faculties in order to get more detailed information.
Public Holidays:
November 1st
December 8th
December 23rd-January 8th (Christmas holidays)
from the Thursday before Easter to the following Wednesday (Easter vacation)
April 25th
May 1st
June 2nd
June 29th(only in Rome)
August (Summer holidays-depending on the Faculty)
COURSES
Classes, in Italian language, are usually built around lectures and most of the students'
work to prepare for examinations is done independently, so you must take personal
responsibility for organising your own time.
The Syllabus (Ordine degli Studi) is available at the Centro Accoglienza e Servizi at
the beginning of the academic year and in our Internet site: http://www.uniroma3.it.
Classes take place every day, morning, afternoon or both. Check Department bulletin
boards for class schedules.
ASSESSMENT (EXAMS)
Exams are held in February, June, July and September. They are written texts or oral.
Marks are given on a scale from 1 to 30; the minimum pass mark is18. A commendation,
“lode”, may be granted with the top mark of 30. After being examined, students must sign
an appropriate register (“verbale d’esame”). Your "Libretto degli Studi" appropriately filled
in, will certify your studies at Roma Tre. An official transcript from the Segreteria Studenti
can only be obtained upon request a couple of months after the examination session. The
International Relations Office will send it to you as soon as it is available.
Examination dates (appelli) are to be found on Department bulletin boards. It is
important to remember that you must register for examinations ahead of time, by
Telematic way: fill an on line form on your Course website ( link “Iscrizione esami”).

ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES
1. Italian courses for the Academic Year 2005/2006
If you need to study Italian you can take one of the free courses organised by the
Centro Linguistico d’Ateneo (C.L.A. - Via Ostiense 131 L elevator C 7th floor).
The CLA offers the following courses in class:

September 2005:
intensive courses at beginner, pre-intermediate, intermediate, post-intermediate and
advanced levels. Each course lasts three weeks (60 hours).
 February 2006:
intensive course at pre-intermediate, intermediate, post-intermediate and advanced
levels. Each course lasts three weeks (60 hours).
All students can take courses in self access with teacher guidance in the C.L.A
laboratories in the following periods:
 October 2005-January 2006 (pre-intermediate, intermediate, post-intermediate
and advanced levels)
 March 2006-May 2006 (pre-intermediate, intermediate, post-intermediate and
advanced level).
There is a test at the end of all courses (in both class and self access). Attendance is
compulsory and all attendance requirements must be met if you wish to take the test.
The C.L.A. offers a beginners' course only in September. However, students are
strongly advised to take a course in Italian before coming to Italy.
Those students who must attend lectures at the faculty during the first semester
should take an Italian course in September. This will enable them to concentrate on learning
Italian before their courses begin.
2. Enrolment
Enrolment is compulsory for all courses. Students must use the enrolment form on
the website: http:// www.cla.uniroma3.it (enter “Erasmus”) which must be completed
within the time limits given below. Students who have not completed the form will not be
allowed to use the facilities of the CLA.
N.B. You cannot enrol for Italian courses through the Ufficio Relazioni Internazionali
(International Relations Office).
In the Enrolment Form, you will be asked to assess your level of Italian. However,
before attending a course in class or in self access you must also take a placement test on
one of the dates given below.
Please put your e-mail address in the relevant box so that you can receive our
communications at home.
In the Enrolment Form you should fill out the field "Faculty attending at Roma Tre".
If you don't know which Faculty your Courses of Study belongs to, you can check it clicking
here (this link leads to a page of the Roma Tre web site)
In the field "Entry Level" of the Enrolment Form you should choose the Italian
Language course you think you should start from. In the field "Exit Level" choose the last
16
course you wish to attend.
Should there be any changes in the semester assigned to you, please complete a new
enrolment form containing the new information as soon as possible.

LIBRARIES
The main Rome university library is the Biblioteca Alessandrina located on the
campus of the "Sapienza" University. It is open from Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am. to 7
pm.; Saturdays from 8.30am. to 1.30 pm.. Access is open to anyone with an ID
card/passport. It may be useful to get a library card (Tessera) which gives you access to
18
more services, such as special collections, etc. The Tessera, for which you need 2 photos and
identification, is free of charge and is valid for the academic year starting in November:
therefore, if you get it in September you will need a new one two months later. The
Tessera is obtainable from the Ufficio Orientamento.
To be allowed to take out books, you need a special form called "malleveria"
available at the library Ufficio Prestiti. The form must be signed by your Socrates coordinator, stamped by your Faculty Secretariat and returned to the library.
Libraries are attached to individual Faculties and Departments at Roma Tre.
You will find the National Library (Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale Vittorio Emanuele) close
to Termini Railway station. It is the largest Public Library in Rome and one of the two
largest in Italy. It is located on Viale Castro Pretorio 105, open from Mondays to Fridays
from 8.30am. to 6.50pm., Saturdays from 8.30am. to 1.20pm.. The book lending service,
however, has many restrictions. For access and a library card “Tessera” (obtainable from the
Ufficio Orientamento) follow the same procedure as for the Biblioteca Alessandrina.
You may want to use other research libraries or specialised academic institutions (see
enclosed list). In some cases it is necessary to show a letter of recommendation from your
home Socrates co-ordinator detailing your research project.

ERASMUS STUDENTS ASSOCIATION “e3”
This Association was founded in October 1996 by Roma Tre former Erasmus students
who, thanks to their experience, give support to foreign students for problems concerning
their practical (accommodation, documents, etc.) and academic (courses, exams, etc.) life in
Rome. They organise many activities like parties, guided visits to museums, monuments and
exhibitions, trips which were very popular among the students.
One of the first things you should do is join the Association because it will help you
to settle down and make new friends.
BEFORE LEAVING ROME
Go to the Ufficio Relazioni Internazionali (please respect the opening times) to
obtain a “Certificato del periodo”, certifying your period of study at Roma Tre (remember
to bring your Libretto degli Studi).
You could be required to bring a Certicate of studies to your own university. If so,
apply for it from Mrs. Nerina Piras, Segreteria Studenti, Foreign Students desk, Via Ostiense
175.
Please let us know what additional information should in your opinion be included in this
booklet and whether there is anything irrelevant in it.
