UND swimming and diving teams name 2008-09 team captains
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Maviael Sampaio, head coach of the University of North Dakota’s swimming and
diving program, announced the 2008-09 team captains for the men’s and women’s programs Tuesday afternoon.
Caycee Anvik, Brittney Jamerson and Lindsey Tande have been selected as the team captains for the women’s
swimming and diving teams. Anvik, a senior from Sidney, Mont., and two-time All-American, was a member of
the 400 medley relay team that placed fourth at the 2008 Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.
Jamerson, a native of Charlottesville, Va., is a three-time All-American. Last season, Jamerson took top honors
and set a North Central Conference record in the 500 yard freestyle at the 2008 NCC Championships.
An All-American, Tande (Sr., Scobey, Mont) enters this season after having two top eight finishes at the NCC
Championships.
Sampaio also announced that Chase Fillingham, Mike Hoenig, Shaun Seaburg and Per Westergren will serve as
the team captains for the men’s swimming and diving teams.
Fillingham, a junior from Bloomington, Ill., enters the season after taking first place in both the 200 IM and 400
IM at the NCC Championships and finishing third in the 200 IM at the national championships last season. The
three-time All-American also holds the UND school record in the 200 IM.
A native of Denver, Colo., Mike Hoenig earned fifth place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at the
NCC Championships in 2008.
Shaun Seaburg is a three-time All-American. The senior from Moorhead, Minn., was a member of the 800
freestyle relay team that took second place at the national championships in 2008.
A Stockholm, Sweden native, Per Westergren is an eleven-time All-American. Westergren was also a member of
the second place 800 freestyle relay team.
The Fighting Sioux will begin regular season competition Oct. 24-25, with a meet in Gillette, Wyo.
