Penny Bridge Nursery Newsletter June 2015 Welcome to the last

Penny Bridge Nursery
Newsletter June 2015
Welcome to the last half
term of the Nursery Year. It's
been wonderful to see how
the children have blossomed
over the year. At Nursery we
follow the Early Years
Foundation Stage (EYFS),
which is all about nurturing
children's communication
skills, confidence and
independence, as well as
their physical skills. From this
foundation we can promote
their interest and
understanding of literacy,
maths, creativity and the
world around them. If you
would like to know more
about the EYFS you can find a
guide for parents at
www.foundationyears.org.uk
This term we will continue to
focus on themes based on
the children's interests. We
observe the children at play
and also discuss possible
themes at circle time. We
ensure that as many children
as possible have the
opportunity to contribute
over the term.
We will also be making the
most of any good weather
and be doing lots of sports
and outdoor games. It would
`
be good if older children
could bring a pair of shorts, a
t shirt and some pumps or
trainers so they can practice
changing their clothes in
preparation for changing for
PE when they start school.
Please do not buy any special
PE clothes for this; however,
please do make sure that all
spares are named.
Spare clothes Many of the
children are already very
good at changing their own
clothes and enjoy the
independence this offers.
However, it does mean that
we often end up with
unclaimed clothes or we find
that child have 'put their
clothes away' somewhere
unexpected and we cannot
find them. We appreciate
this is as frustrating for you
as it is for us. To help us
manage this please ensure
your child has a named set of
spares and a named bag to
keep them in.
Things to try at home
Changing clothes
independently is an excellent
skill to practice at home. If
your child is reluctant to try
this you could dress a teddy
or play dressing up on top of
their ordinary clothes.
Lots of the children are really
excited about junk modelling.
This is something you can do
at home for no expense and
with very little mess with a
few items from the recycling
and sticky tape (glue not only
gets everywhere but tends
not to be good for joining
boxes and tubs). You can talk
about shapes, encourage
your child make their own
imaginative play items and
encourage problem solving
skills, as well as having fun.
Once finished you could
encourage your child to sort
the recycling with you.
Dates this term This is a busy
term with lots of exciting
activities and special events
Sports day Monday 29th June
9.15am The emphasis is on
having a go and enjoying
physical fun. We organise a
circuit of activities for
children to try. Family
members can help and
encourage their children. At
the end we gather for a drink
to celebrate the children's
efforts. If you are unable to
attend we will ensure your
child gets lots of support
from Nursery staff.
Leavers' celebration
Thursday 16th July 9.15 am
This is a really special event
to say good bye and good
luck for all those going on to
school. During the next few
weeks older children will be
making special PE bags to
take on to school that we will
present at this event.
End of term. Term finishes
on Friday 17th July. Friday
afternoon will be a holiday
club session with mixed
school and nursery children.
Nursery children who
normally attend on a Friday
afternoon will be given
priority places unless you
inform us that your child will
not be in.
Holiday club will run
throughout the summer
offering full day, sessional
and hourly care for children
aged 2 - 11 years. Children
from other nurseries and
schools are welcome too.
Look out for special activities;
details to follow.
Car park We hope you are
finding the car park useful.
The spaces have now been
widened to accommodate
4X4s and to enable parents
to get their children in and
out of car seats more easily.
Local residents have fed back
that the car park has greatly
improved the local
environment for them too, so
we would really encourage
everyone to use it.
`
Fire safety You may have
heard that the fire service
was called to Nursery during
the half term holiday. Due to
an electrical fault on the hob
a small fire started. Everyone
was evacuated immediately
and the Fire Service called.
The Fire Service praised the
quick response of staff that
meant that everyone was
safe and the damage was
minimal. The hob has been
checked by an electrician.
Thankfully this was a very
minor incident however it
does highlight the
importance of keeping the
gates In front of the school
clear at all times for
emergency access. Please
refrain from parking on the
bend by the bridge or in front
of the school, even if you are
only going to be a few
moments.
Your child's Summer
Assessment will be ready for
you by Friday 19th June.
Please read and sign the
assessment and add your
comments. Your feedback
really helps us make sure we
are on track re your child's
progress. We will be holding
parents meeting on
Wednesday 1st July from
3.30 to 6pm. If this is not
convenient for you please
speak to Annabel, Caitlin or
Abigail and we will be happy
to arrange an alternative. If
your child has an online
learning journal you will find
our observations on your
Tapestry log in. The
assessment and some photos
of your child are in your
child's paper learning journal.
If you have any queries about
this please speak to Annabel.
A big thank you to all of you
who have helped us with our
trial of online learning
journals. The comments and
observations you have added
from home have been
invaluable. We would love to
know if you have found them
useful or if you have any
other feedback.
Thank you too to all the
family members who have
come in over the year to
show the children various
pets and animals, to play
music, help with gardening,
and support the children. We
even had a lovely younger
sibling in for a bath – thanks.
As ever, if you have any
queries or comments please
do speak to a member of
staff. Thank you for your
ongoing support.
And finally! Sunflower
success with one of the seeds
we planted for Mother’s Day.
