Ms. Masters’ First Grade News Reading – This week, we will learn a new Theme Time (Social Studies, Health, comprehension strategy called “Making Inferences”. science) Students will practice finding clues in a story to discover important information that was not directly stated in the text. I will also introduce the Metacognitive Strategy “Making Connections”. Students will learn how to identify the similarities between a story and something that has happened in their own lives. Phonics and Spelling – Our spelling pattern and phonics focus for this week is three-letter blends. Our words are “split”, “squint”, strap”, “strand”, “spring”, and “scrub”. The sight words this week are “made”, “people”, “her”, “new”, and “make”. We are starting a new unit in Health on germs. This week we will learn all about germs and how to stay healthy. Special announcements! Scholastic book orders are coming home in red folders today. They are due back Tuesday, January 17th. On Tuesday, we have a special assembly. The Ronald McDonald team will come and perform a short play for the students on respect. This is a play that comes to Eagle Creek every year and the kids always enjoy it.
