April 2014 AD Meeting - River Valley Conference

RVC AD Meeting 4/9/14
-Commish Breitbach called the meeting to order at 10:00.
-All members present except Regina.
-Next meeting will be May 7th at Durant High School at 10:00 am.
Academic Decathlon
-Discussion was held regarding schools having interest in having something for
Academic Decathlon at the conference level. Tom will send out information to see if
there is interest from other schools.
Basketball
-For basketball, do we want to leave it as it stands or make only divisional games
count for the conf. champ. For now we will leave it as it is.
Baseball
-Concerns were shared regarding conflicts in the current conference baseball
schedule. Schools are able to adjust as needed with opponents to make this work out
better. Matt will also check this and adjust as needed.
No conference baseball and softball tournament will be held. It was discussed last
year and we had decided not to have it. Teams can fill that void before the
postseason with non-conference games.
Make sure accurate start times are listed for home sites. 5:30 for baseball, 6:00 for
softball is the preferred start times, can be adjusted as needed.
Mid-Prairie baseball is in Wellman, softball in Kalona.
Softball
-For softball, Gregg has done the JH schedule. Check your schedules and adjust as
needed between schools. For the most part plan on 10:00 am start
-Game format will be 5 innings or an hour and a half per game. Home team will be
home for both games. No batter limit and no run rule. Common sense needs to
prevail if the game is one-sided. For extra innings use the international rule.
-It is OK to use one official for the games.
-For JV games softball and baseball, play an hour and a half or 7 innings. If run rule is
reached and both teams want more time inside the time limit, they can continue
playing but team leading at run rule is the winner.
-In case of poor weather, it is ok to move the varsity games to first to make sure we
get the in.
Track
-High school girls will be at Northeast, high school boys will be at Mid-Prairie
-Start time will be 4:30 for field events and 4:45 for running events.
-Scratches will count as an event for an athlete like at the district meet.
-Starting heights for the high jump will be 4’4 for girls and 5’4 for boys.
-Noon will be the cutoff time for entries.
-Top 3 will medal for ind. and relays.
-We will score to 8 places.
-For junior high, for field events can enter 3 but only score 2. For the north, the meet
will be split at the 4x200 between boys and girls to offset running and field events.
Golf
-Matt asked for feedback regarding the start of golf so far.
-Concern with moving start times to 4:00 for conference meets to get kids home
sooner.
-Stroke limits can be used to help speed up the meets. For some JV teams they have
gone best ball to get kids some rounds in.
Volleyball
-Matt will put together a format for conference tourney and send it out next month.
Academic All-Conference
-3.5 is the requirement for this honor.
By-Laws and other
-Matt is updating these and will also send out a master calendar
-14-15 Northeast will host conference band festival due to construction at North
Cedar.
-14-15 Choir will be at Mid-Prairie.
-Meeting was adjourned and lunch followed in Camanche.
