Second Judicial District preparing for move to new Denver Justice Center
Move scheduled for late June, new courtrooms assigned
DENVER – Beginning in July, the Denver City and County Building will no longer house
courtrooms handling felony criminal matters, drug court, and juvenile matters. Such cases
instead will be heard in the new Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse, located two blocks to the west of
the City and County Building at 520 W. Colfax Avenue.
“We are very pleased to be making the move to the new courthouse,” said Second Judicial
District Chief Judge Robert S. Hyatt. “The Lindsey-Flanigan complex stands as a modern
symbol of the rule of law with its safety features and technological capabilities helping to ensure
effective and efficient administration of justice.”
Parties to cases and anybody else having business with the Second Judicial District’s
juvenile court, felony criminal court and Drug Court will need to report to the new building
beginning in July. Those summoned for jury service in Denver District Court will have to read
their summonses closely to determine whether to report to the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse or
the City and County Building, where civil matters filed in the 2nd Judicial District will continue
to be heard.
Criminal courts in the City and County Building will cease most business on Monday, June
28, and resume work in the new courthouse the following week. During that time, Denver
County Judge Andrew Armatas will continue to hear criminal cases as necessary, while Denver
District Court Chief Judge Hyatt will handle a criminal docket in the City and County Building
and hear emergency matters. Similarly, the Juvenile Court will close for business during that
week, with provisions made by Chief Judge Karen M. Ashby to handle emergency matters as
they arise.
