Airborne paint dust is a major health issue associated with
surface preparation operations. OSHA regulation 1910.1026 (c)
establishes a Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) that requires that
no employee is exposed to hexavalent chromium in excess of
5 µg/m3. Prior to June of 2010, this limit was 25 µg/m3.
Similar regulations protect workers from exposure to
cadmium, lead, and other chemicals.
EMMA always holds
sanders flat on the
surface to ensure a
constant vacuum seal,
maximizing dust capture
and abrasive life
EMMA’s hollow-core design safely guides
the vacuum hose from the End-Effector to
the collection tank
Artisans have a difficult time sanding flat, inevitably tilting the sander away from the surface, thus compromising the vacuum
seal to allow dust to escape into the shop environment. Moreover, the dust remaining on the surface prematurely clogs the
abrasive. EMMA, in contrast, always holds sanders flat on the surface, which allows the vacuum to work at peak efficiency-abrasives last several times longer and the shop stays clean.

Vibration damage associated
with pneumatic sanding tools
can lead to cumulative trauma
disorders- such as Hand-Arm
Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)- that
require surgery. These injuries can
lower productivity in shops due to
absenteeism and new worker training,
driving up overall operating costs
(e.g. OSHA citations under the general
duty clause).
Operator holds joysticks,
EMMA holds tool(s) and
applies pressure
EMMA addresses these health and
safety concerns by reducing artisan
exposure to vibration, high grip forces,
and awkward postures. EMMA is
uniquely capable of supporting the
entire weight of the power tool,
applying optimum contact pressure,
and absorbing vibration before it gets
to the worker.
No more awkward
postures, high grip forces,
and vibration damage
