Summer Internship Play Pals: Level III Position Description Department: Reports to: Purpose: Family Museum Learning Experiences & Environments Volunteer/Play Pal Coordinator Inspire, connect, and strengthen our community by enriching the lives of our children today and expanding their capacity to shape their future. Engage families, caregivers, and teachers with children eight years and under in active play and learning experiences and environments that spark their curiosity, explore their interests, foster their potential and nourish a sense of belonging. Supervision will consist of consultation rather than day-to-day direct supervision. Key Responsibilities: 1. Continue responsibilities from Play Pals: Level II Internship by: - helping families use the exhibits (sharing ideas and objects to further exploration). - staffing the Art Studio and the ThinkShop. - staffing the Great Hallway with craft activities or projects. - modeling correct conduct in the museum and proper use of materials. -participation and leadership, as needed, in staff planning and meetings. -Development of Education lesson plans and activities based on the Iowa Early learning Standards. 2. Provide support to the Guest Services team and our guests in set and reset of exhibit props. 3. Guide and Direct Level I and II Play Pals on the exhibit floor. 4. Act as a mentor/role model for youth volunteers. 5. Institute a new program on the exhibit floor for children age 8 and under. 6. Implement and construct an educational “kit” for future use that will enhance play in one of the specific exhibits on the Museum floor. 7. Smile and have fun! Play and learn with our guests and make their day great. 8. Know and enforce the safety standards and policies of the Museum. 9. Other related duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: 1. Experience: Requires the successful completion of a Play Pals: Level I and Level II Summer Internship. 2. Attitude: Must demonstrate a desire to further personal learning experiences, and a willingness to take on additional responsibility within the Family Museum. 3. Interpersonal Skills: Must possess excellent communication skills, be patient and persuasive in dealing with children and be able to communicate special problems and problem-solving ideas to museum staff. Must be outgoing, flexible, and comfortable approaching and engaging with families. 4. Analytical Ability: Routine and non-recurring problem solving skills are required. 5. Working Conditions: Experiences may take place in the exhibit galleries, the Great Hall, and outdoor courtyard. Time Requirements: Summer Internship: May through August Level 3 Interns will be compensated $9.93 per hour.
