WDMSC Select Program – U11-U14 Playing Time Guidelines
The WDMSC Select program is a highly successful and competitive program. It is important for
players and parents that make a commitment to the program to understand there are a variety
of factors that influence playing time.
Playing Time Philosophy
Playing time is an essential part of player development. However, the amount of time a player
plays is based on a variety of factors. Although a player’s selection to one of our Select teams
indicates he or she meets the criteria to play on that team, playing time is earned and based on
the following:




Attendance: The player’s attendance and commitment to practice is taken into
consideration. While the Club recognizes some players choose to participate in
activities in addition to soccer, those not attending all regular scheduled training
sessions may be subject to decreased playing time.
Attitude: All players are expected to display a positive attitude, have a desire to learn
and improve, and be respectful towards teammates, coaches, officials, and members of
the opposing team.
Ability: Individual technical, tactical, and physical ability, in conjunction with the level of
opposition and necessary tactical adjustments will be taken into consideration.
Performance: A player’s effort and performance during practice and games will be
closely observed.
Level of Play
In combination with the factors listed above, the level of play for a particular game or
tournament will be used as criteria for determining playing time as follows:


League and Tournament Games: During league and tournament games coaches will try
to give players the opportunity to play at least 50% of each game. Actual playing time
will vary based on the factors listed above and certain game situations as determined by
the coach’s discretion.
State Cup / Regionals: The coaching staff will make every effort to provide each player
with the chance to play. Emphasis during these events is focused on giving the team the
best opportunity to advance so a player might see decreased playing time compared to
the other games and events throughout the season.
