InnovaTek Press Release: (See Appendix A) InnovaTek’s press release, “InnovaTek is an Industry Partner in FAA New $40 Million Center of Excellence at WSU”, contains an eye-catching headline. However, the press release does not include any contact information, which decreases the company’s opportunity to connect with interested individuals. The article was published in September 2013 and the companies most recent press release. InnovaTek would benefit from releasing more press releases. The press release uses important quotes, which gives the piece a human element. However, the quotes are unnecessarily lengthy. The author should describe part of the quotes in his or her own words to reduce the article to an appropriate length (400 words). The content of the article is newsworthy and gives credibility to InnovaTek’s environmentally friendly image. The company is only mentioned once throughout the release, InnovaTek would benefit from giving more information about the company. The lead in the press release is a bit lengthy, but effectively summarizes the information in the release. Unlike the company’s competitors, InnovaTek’s press release was also easy to find and provided links for more information. RexWall’s Press Release: (See Appendix B) RexWall does not produce press releases. The “news” section on the company’s website contains short 1-5 sentence updates about the company. The information in the updates enhances the company’s credibility; however, RexWall would benefit from producing full-length press releases like their competitors. The company only gives these short updates 2-3 times per year; therefore, RexWall is missing out on opportunities to promote their products. World Housing Solution Press Release Justification: (See Appendix C) Due to an influx of new entrants into the sustainable development industry, it has become challenging for a company to differentiate themselves among the competition. WHS’s adjustable leg-leveling system gives the company a leg up in the competition. World Housing Solution is the only company among the competition that is able to build on any terrain, which adds to their user-centered design and is a necessity for emergency housing. Currently, WHS has not released any information about their unique feature; therefore, in order to spread the word and help WHS stand out among the competition, I chose to the adjustable leg leveling system as a topic for the press release. Appendix A: InnovaTek is an Industry Partner in FAA New $40 Million Center of Excellence at WSU 9.13.2013 WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has selected a team of universities to lead a new Air Transportation Center of Excellence (COE) for alternate jet fuels and the environment. Led by Washington State University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the COE will explore ways to meet the environmental and energy goals that are part of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). “This innovative partnership supports President Obama’s national plan to address climate change,” said Secretary Foxx. “The Center of Excellence will tap talented universities to help us take environmentally friendly, alternative jet fuel technology to the next level. Airlines and their customers will both benefit from their work developing cleaner fuel that supports the environment and continued aviation growth.” Core team partners include Boston University, Oregon State University, Purdue University, the University of Dayton, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Washington, Missouri University of Science and Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, Stanford University, the University of Hawaii, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Tennessee. Research and development efforts by the team will focus on NextGen environmental goals for noise, air quality, climate change and energy. Areas of study will include new aircraft technologies and sustainable alternative aviation jet fuels. The FAA’s COE program is a cost-sharing research partnership between academia, industry and the federal government. The FAA anticipates providing this COE with $4 million a year for each of the 10 years of the program. The selected university members all have nationally recognized collegiate environmental and aviation-related education programs. Research projects will be performed through a partnership of senior scientists from these universities. The COE universities also will engage both graduate-level and undergraduate students in their research activities. “The FAA continues its goal to improve National Airspace System energy efficiency by at least two percent per year, and to develop and deploy alternative jet fuels for commercial aviation, with a target of one billion gallons of alternate jet fuel in use by 2018,” said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. “This Center of Excellence is a valuable tool to provide the critical data we need to reach these goals.” The COE industry and other organizational partners include: Aerodyne Research, Airbus/EADS, Alaska Airlines, Boeing, Cathay Pacific Airways, Clean Energy Trust, CSSI, Delta Air Lines, General Electric Aircraft Engines, Gevo, Gulfstream, Harris Miller Miller & Hanson, Honeywell UOP, InnovaTek, KiOr, LanzaTech, Metron Aviation, NREL – National Bioenergy Center, PNNL, Rolls Royce, SAFRAN, U.S. DoD – AFRL (Wright Patterson Air Force Base), UTRC (Pratt and Whitney), Weyerhaeuser, Wyle Laboratories and ZeaChem. Congress authorized Air Transportation Centers of Excellence under the Federal Aviation Administration Research, Engineering and Development Authorization Act of 1990. This legislation enables the FAA to work with universities and industry partners to conduct research in airspace and airport planning and design, environment and aviation safety, as well as to engage in other activities to assure a safe and efficient air transportation system. The FAA has established Centers of Excellence with more than 75 universities conducting research and education in nine other topic areas focusing on: commercial space transportation, airliner cabin environment and intermodal research, aircraft noise and aviation emissions mitigation, advanced materials, general aviation, airworthiness assurance, operations research, airport pavement and airport technology, and computational modeling of aircraft structures. The results of the research conducted through these Centers has resulted in enhancements to policy, guidance and overall safety improvements in many areas, including: remote airport lighting, updated training methodologies for aviation safety inspectors, advancements in Automatic Dependent Surveillance/Broadcast (ADS-B), helipad lighting enhancements for emergency medical services, a national general aviation flight information database, a national wildlife database, reduction of approach fuel burn by 1020 percent, and many other innovations. Appendix C: Ron Ben-Zeev World Housing Solution CEO (407) 221-7000 [email protected] WORLD HOUSING SOLUTION’S MAJOR DEVELOPMENT IN THE SUSTAINABLE HOUSING INDUSTRY EDGEWATER, FLORIDA—The current growing interest in the sustainable development industry resulted in an influx of new companies developing sustainable products. In an increasingly competitive market a privately held U.S. company, World Housing Solution, differentiates their product from their competitors through a unique product feature. The influx of new entrants and the similarity of sustainable products intensifies competition in the sustainable development market. In order for a company to succeed, it is necessary to produce products that differentiate the company from the competition. WHS’s adjustable leg leveling system enables structures to be built on any type of terrain. The ability to build on any terrain is critical in developing housing, especially in disaster and war zones. More then half of the global population is aware of the “carbon footprint”. 34% of people are more likely to buy environmentally responsible products. As awareness of the detrimental consequences of global warming increases, more people will begin demanding low carbon products. Furthermore, businesses are discovering that environmentally friendly options minimize the company’s overall cost. Most companies in this market including WHS use environmentally friendly composite panels to construct buildings. Another similarity between these companies is the product’s features. All companies claim to build structures that are long lasting, durable, water proof, hurricane and earthquake safe, bug proof, and quick and easy to assemble. The products also all have the option to be fire and bullet proof. However, WHS is the only company among the competition that is able to build structures on any type of terrain.
