You can insert video into your
PowerPoint program in 3 ways:
1. “Insert-Movies and Sounds”
2. “Insert-object-Windows Media Player”
3. Insert a Flash (.swf) file
--or you can LINK to a video stored
elsewhere
Option 1: “Insert-Movies and Sounds”
1. Insert-Movies
and
Sounds.
Browse for
file.
2. Choose how you
want the video to start.
This is an example of an Excel tutorial, captured with SnagIt, and
inserted into a PowerPoint show (“Insert—Movies and Sounds”).
Click anywhere on the Excel sample to start the video.
Option 2: Insert Windows Media Player
1. Insert—Object—
Windows Media Player
2. The Properties panel will open.

Inserting a Flash (.swf) Movie or
Animation
• IMPORTANT: the Flash (.swf) file must be
located in the folder with the PowerPoint
show
Or
• Must be available on the Internet with a
URL (Web address)
3. Insert a Flash (.swf) Object
1. Choose “View-Toolbars Control Toolbox.”
2. Select “Shockwave Flash
Object.”
3. The cursor will change
to a crosshair + .
Draw a rectangle. (You
can resize this later.)

1. Right click on the rectangle and choose
Properties. The Properties panel will open.

box; a selection box will
appear. Click to open it.

4. Right click on the rectangle and choose
Properties. The Properties panel will open.
Click beside the custom box; a
selection box will appear. Click to open it.
5. Type in the name of
the file, including the
.swf extension.
Option 3: Insert as a Flash (.swf) file
Windows Media file size = 3000 kb
Converted to Flash (.swf) file = 1400 kb
You Try
The folder “Adding Video” contains sample video files for
you to practice with:
Excel_highlight whole sheet.wmf (windows media)
and
Excel_highlight whole sheet .swf (Flash file)
Click “Esc” to close this file.
