UCCS Intramural Dodgeball

UCCS Intramural Dodgeball
1. All participants must bring their current UCCS ID to each game. Participants without proper
identification will not be allowed to play. No other forms of identification (driver’s license, class
schedule, etc.) will be accepted. Must sign in at least one time in order to be eligible for the play offs.
2. Intramural regulations and policies concerning eligibility are in effect.
3. All injuries must be reported to the supervisor on duty. IM supervisors are trained in first aid and
CPR.
4. Keep in mind that judgment calls may not be protested, but rule interpretations may be protested.
Please see the Intramural Handbook for further information regarding formal protests. Certain
intramural modifications follow:
1) The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them out.
2) There is a five minute game time limit for each game. If not all the players have been eliminated
by that time, the team with the most players left will be ruled the winner.
3) A player must hit an opposing player with a thrown ball below the shoulders. If a player is hit in
the head with a ball the player is allowed to stay in the game. The exception to this is if someone
ducks into a thrown ball.
4) Catching a ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground allows a player to come
back onto the court from the same team, and the thrower of the ball is out. Players must return
onto the court IN THE ORDER THAT THEY WERE ELIMINATED. Ex. Player A is knocked
out, followed by player B. Player B MAY NOT enter the game before player A does.
5) Players must stay in the lines of the basketball court at the discretion of the officials. Example:
When a team is left to two or fewer players that team must stay within the basketball lines to
prevent stalling. Players may leave the court to retrieve the dodgeballs.
6) Crossing the center line onto the opponent’s side of the court by a full foot or body part, unless
the team is down to two or fewer players, will result in an out. However, At any point of the game
when either team gets down to two or less players in the field, the team that is short players is
permitted to go up to the first opposing team’s black line on the volleyball court. This line, in
effect, becomes the new center line for the short handed team until the game is concluded.
7) If there is one player left on a team at the end of the game, that player may roam anywhere on the
floor while the opposing team is limited to the center line.
8) If a player deflects a thrown ball with a ball they are holding, the player is out.

9) If a player catches a live ball (one that has not hit the ground), the thrower is out and everyone hit
by the thrown ball remains in. (Example. Player A throws a ball and hits their opponent, Player B.
The ball bounces off of Player B and is caught by Player C. Because the ball is still live and
caught, Player A is out and both Player B and Player C remain in the game.
10) If a ball hits the wall, and hits a player, the player remains in. The wall in effect kills the ball.
11) If a ball hits a player and then the wall the player is out regardless of whether or not the player
catches the ball.
12) The game will begin with eight dodge balls being placed along the center line.
13) Players take a position touching their respective back walls.
14) On the whistle from the official, teams may approach the center line to retrieve the balls. Any ball
not retrieved after the initial rush may be picked up by either team. There is no sliding allowed to
retrieve a ball. If a player slides he or she will be called out. Players must “check” the ball behind
the first black volleyball line on their side of the court before they can throw the ball.
15) If a ball is thrown and strikes Player A and then strikes Player B, both players are out. However,
if player A is struck, player B may catch the ball, “saving” player A. The thrower of the ball is
eliminated.
16) There is a seven second holding time for a ball. If a ball is held for longer than that amount of
time the holder of the ball will be called out.
17) The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner of the game.
18) If time runs out during regular play then a one-on-one playoff will be instated. Teams will choose
one player from their roster in an attempt to get the other player out. Each player will receive one
ball.
19) The winner of the best of three games will be declared the winner of the match(five for league
play).
