TEAM VIC 10-12 YEARS STATE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM SELECTION GUIDELINES The School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships will be held in Hobart, Tasmania from 1114 August 2017. It is expected that the approximate cost to each team member will be approximately $1200 $1500, which includes compulsory uniform items, levies and flights. This does not include accommodation, transport & meals School Sport Australia Championships consist of educational and sporting components. Being a member of a Team Vic (the state team arm of School Sport Victoria) State Team provides an opportunity to be involved in an all-inclusive educational and sporting excursion. All members of selected teams, whether students or team officials, are expected to fulfill the responsibilities of being a Victorian Team Member. These responsibilities include: Attending all training sessions deemed compulsory by team management staff. Attending initial briefing session, presentation and team photograph sessions. Completing team documentation and returning same to team management by due date. Ensuring team membership invoice is paid by due date. Attending all sessions of the School Sport Australia Championships, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the excursion activity. Recognising that all School Sport Australia Championships are school activities, and that duty of care and decision-making regarding each team member’s participation in those activities or in preparation for those activities, is the responsibility of the team management / coaching staff. Team Officials ensuring that the selection process is fair and transparent, and that students, parents and teachers are made aware of this process. SELECTION CRITERIA – ALL STUDENTS: 1. The Team Vic Cross Country team will be selected from the SSV State Championships only. 2. You must be a student attending a Victorian school that is a member of School Sport Victoria. 3. You must be at least 10 years of age as at 31 December 2017 and not turning 13 years of age in 2017. Ie Born in 2007, 2006 or 2005 4. Maximum team size of 54 athletes (Up to 36 able-bodied athletes and up to 18 Multi Class athletes) will be selected. 5. Athletes who have previously failed to uphold their responsibilities as a member of Team Vic may not be considered for selection 6. The contact details of several additional competitors will be kept as an emergency, in the event of a selected competitor not being able to accept their place 7. Emergencies will only be offered places in the team if and when any selections are declined 8. Team officials will meet with prospective team members and parents/guardians after their race to provide them with information regarding State Team responsibilities 9. Each team member will be expected to maintain their regular training regime leading up to the National Championships, and team coaches are available to offer guidance if requested 10. There will be a Presentation Day to be held on Sunday 6 August 2017 at Oakleigh South Primary School from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm. All team members are expected to attend 11. The following will apply to both the boys and girls races in each age group assuming the athletes has nominated the SSV team on the Availability Form, unless item 5 applies SELECTION CRITERIA – ABLE BODY STUDENTS 1. The six (6) fastest 10 year old, 11 year old and 12 year old boys and girls overall from the SSV State Championships will be offered a place in the team ie Born 2007, 2006 or 2005 2. Students turning 13 in 2017, ie Born 2004, are ineligible for these age groups SELECTION CRITERIA – MULTI CLASS STUDENTS 1. The Multi Class age groups for the School Sport Australia Championships are 10 years, 11 years & 12 years (as at 31 December 2017) for boys and girls 2.Maximum of three (3) Multi Class student will be selected per gender per age group 10 years Multi Class First three (3) 10 years Girls placegetters & first three (3) 10 years Boys placegetters based on the MDS (Athletics Australia Multi-Disability Standard percentages) from the results of the respective 11 years Multi Class First three (3) 11 years Girls placegetters & first three (3) 11 years Boys placegetters based on the MDS (Athletics Australia Multi-Disability Standard percentages) from the results of the respective Girls & Boys 9-12 years MULTICLASS 2000m races at the SSV State Cross Country Championships. 12 years Multi Class First three (3) 12 years Girls placegetters & first three (3) 12 years Boys placegetters based on the MDS (Athletics Australia Multi-Disability Standard percentages) from the results of the respective Girls & Boys 9-12 years MULTICLASS 2000m races at the SSV State Cross Country Championships. TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT 1.The team will be announced on the SSV website (www.ssv.vic.edu.au) after 5 pm on Friday 21 July 2.An email will also be sent to team members with a team bulletin and a link to accept your place in the team by paying a non-refundable $250 deposit 3.Due to the short timelines, acceptances must be completed no later than MONDAY 24 JULY 4.Once you have accepted your place in the team uniform ordering information and raffle books will be forwarded to you 5.If any of these details change, you will be notified by email.
