Purpose of the Position
The Head Coach is primarily responsible for providing a localised training environment that allows eligible, aspiring
young players within the Sydney Netball Academy region to access quality development opportunities and support
as they progress through the Netball NSW pathway.
The Sydney Netball Academy Head Coach will lead the program that is aimed primarily at individual athlete
development with a focus on preparing players for NNSW state team trials and other competition opportunities such
as the 2017 Academy Games on the Central Coast and the Australian Invitational Youth Games (AIYG) at Maitland.

Overview of Tasks
Planning and Administration
 Liaise with the Team Manager regarding training
requirements and all logistics associated with SNA
program.
 Liaise with the General Manager High Performance
regarding injuries, budget queries and any discipline
issues.
 Work with the Assistant Coaches to submit the
following reports:
1. Annual Program – including the training program
and schedule.
2. Annual Program Review report to be submitted
within three (3) weeks of the completion of the
program. The report will include a review of the:
 Selection process
 Player & Team preparation & performance
 Organisation, communication &
administration
 Individual player reports detailing their on/off
court performance and potential to progress
 Attend the following:
1. Planning meetings as agreed with the General
Manager High Performance.
2. Any professional development opportunities as
agreed with the General Manager High
Performance.
3. All selection trials.
4. Team induction.
5. All training and education sessions.
6. Academy Games & AIYG.
7. Be available on at least two (2) occasions to
deliver coach education activities. These are to
be mutually agreed with the General Manager
High Performance.

Liaise with the General Manager - High Performance
or representative, and the Assistant Coaches to
prepare the SNA program, including the program for
player development and squad/team preparation.
With the assistance of the Assistant Coaches, plan,
prepare and deliver quality coaching sessions to all
SNA players.
Be willing and open to advice, feedback and support
from the Assistant Coach to ensure the skills and
attributes of the Assistant Coach are maximised.
Contribute to the professional development of
Assistant Coaches.
Work with the NSW Emerging Talent Selection Panel
members in the selection of those players that
demonstrate the potential for NSW representation.
Work with the NSW Emerging Talent Selection Panel
members and your Assistant Coaches in the
selection of players to compete at the Academy
Games and AIYG.
Represent Netball NSW and the State Team where
possible at competitions, coaching seminars and
promotional functions, as determined by the CEO.
Attendance at meetings a determined by the
General Manager High Performance.
Abide by, promote and actively enforce Netball
Australia and Netball NSW policies.
Participate
in
professional
development
opportunities as determined by the General
Manager High Performance.
Selection Criteria
The Head Coach will require a range of personal and professional skills including:
Qualifications and experience
 Current Netball NSW registration.
 Netball Australia Intermediate Coaching Course Accreditation as a minimum and preference may be given to
coaches with emerging and/or Advance Coaching Course Accreditation.
 Minimum experience of two years as either a Head or Assistant Coach at Premier or Metro League level,
preferably within Region 1.
 Demonstrated commitment to their professional development as a coach.
 Ability to meet the duties, attendance and report requirements as per this Agreement.

 Highly developed planning and organisational skills.
 Understands and complies with the relevant Netball NSW policies and processes.
 Demonstrated talent identification and selecting ability.

lead the team and team management demonstrating a high level of interpersonal and communication skills.

Netball NSW High Performance (HP) program.
 Can establish and maintain positive working relationships with, and is accessible to key stakeholders including
the Assistant Coaches, Netball NSW HP staff, Premier & Metro League coaches and other management team
personnel.
 Ensures that players and management understand the importance of ensuring all NSW representatives are
considered role models, and that the brand and profile of the players, management, Team and Netball NSW
are portrayed positively at all times.
Other Information
As a member of Netball NSW Staff, the Head Coach – Sydney Netball Academy needs to display characteristics such
as reliability, punctuality and courtesy, and be self-motivated and well presented at all times when representing
Netball NSW.
The successful candidate will be required to develop and manage a range of internal and external relationships, often
in unstructured settings including:



Netball NSW CEO.
Netball NSW General Manager High Performance and at times other members of the Netball NSW Senior
Staff Team.
Sydney Netball Academy Support Staff.
