MixBook Tutorial 1. Get started by creating an account with Mixbook. 2. Login and click the “Create” tab. 3. Enter a title for your Mixbook. (You may change this later.) 4. You may add tags. 5. Choose a category (K12 Education) 1 6. Select who may view your Mixbook. I recommend “Only Friends.” 7. Select who may edit or contribute to your Mixbook. I recommend either “Open to Friends” or “Not Open.” 8. Sharing options: Choose “No: Only allow me and othere contributors to order this book.” 2 9. Invite: To add contributors, click “Add Contributors.” You will need to enter their email addresses. 10. Click “Create Mixbook.” 11. Once you click “Create Mixbook” you may choose between using AutoMix, which, which wil mix your images for you or you may create the layout from scratch. You can always change your mind later. 12. Click “Add Pictures” to upload the images you want to use in your Mixbook. These images may be photos from your computer, scanned images, or images from the web. 13. Click the “Layouts” tab to choose from many layout styles. 14. Click the “Backgrounds” tab to choose colors and styles. 3 15. Pages will appear at the bottom of the screen. They will appear similar to a storyboard. Choose which page you want to work on by clicking the page. 16. You may drag items or photo elements into the trash can to delete them. 17. You may also add or remove pages from your book. 18. Get started by uploading some images to your account. Browse to “My Pictures” or use images you have uploaded from a digital camera or the Internet. You may select multiple images by holding down the “Shift” key as you select. 4 19. Add some pages by using the “Page Tool” in the lower right-hand corner. 20. Select the page you want to work on. Then, click the “Layout” tab to choose from many layouts available. The layouts are images, text only, or combinations of both. You may add up to 21 images per page. 21. Once you have selected the layout, go back to the “Photos” tab, select an image and drag and drop it into the workspace of the page on the right. The layout can always be adjusted or changed at a later date. Your images will adjust to changes in layout. 22. Once your images are placed in the layout, you can continue manipulating them by selecting each image individually. You can edit and adjust the previously chosen layout by rotating the frames, changing their color, width, and style. You can also zoom in or 5 out of each image within a frame or send an image to the back or to the front for a layered effect. 23. Adding Text: To add text to your page, choose a layout that includes text. Text is indicated by horizontal parallel lines on the layout thumbnails. 24. Click directly on the text box to enter and edit text. You can also choose font, style, size, and color. 6 25. Backgrounds: Select the “Background” tab to choose a solid colored background or a scrapbook stype background. Click on the background and it will be displayed in the preview window. 26. Remember to SAVE frequently! 27. When your project has been completed, choose the yellow “PUBLISH” button. 28. To Publish MixBook to Wiki or EdLine: Select your MixBook to view the project (in view mode). Locate the size bar, directly below the MixBook. Choose the size: “Mini, Medium, Large, or Gargantuan.” 29. Scroll down the page slightly. Locate “About this MixBook.” Just below, you will see a box with the embedding code. Right-click to copy the code. Paste the code into your wiki or website. 7 30. To email your MixBook, locate “Email to a Friend” text on the left. Click “Email a friend.” 31. A box will open with a place to add email addresses. Add the email address (or select a name if you’ve emailed from MixBook before) and click “Share Book.” 8
