Chiefs for Change Overview
Chiefs for Change (CFC) is a non-profit organization whose members are state and
local education chiefs who have achieved some of the strongest academic gains for
students of diverse backgrounds, and are committed to helping far more children
succeed nationwide. Through CFC, officials share their united viewpoint on what is
working best to help all students succeed and weigh in on major issues that affect
American parents, students and teachers. Together, the chiefs advocate for policies
that are working for all children; return states and big cities to their role as the
engines of innovation; and, broadly disseminate state and local practices and
policies that have advanced student achievement, while helping to develop the next
generation of state and city education leaders nationwide.

The mission of Chiefs for Change is to build a community of state and local education
chiefs dedicated to our vision and to support them in ways that maximize the
success of their efforts.
CFC staff support members in areas of talent development, strategic advising and
communications.
Position Overview
The Vice-President of Strategy and Talent will play a lead role in the creation,
planning and execution of programming for our members in the areas of talent
development and strategic advising. The Vice-President will also develop and
oversee the knowledge management work that supports this programming.
Specifically, the Vice-President will:

Participate in development of a process for identifying pipeline of future
chiefs
Design and oversee “shadowing” program for future chiefs to maximize value
of their interaction with CFC members and prepare them for cabinet level
and chief roles.
Develop additional talent development programs, experiences and
opportunities for future chiefs.
Pursue partnerships with organizations in the talent development sector to
extend the reach of their programming to CFC members and their teams
Oversee strategy and creation of knowledge management processes, tools
and artifacts for use in strategic advising and talent development programs
Lead design and implementation of consultancy protocols and presentations
to members at convenings

Facilitate peer-to-peer strategic advising across membership
Lead and manage additional strategic advising work with members and their
senior teams
Maintain strong and collaborative relationships with members to ensure that
work moves forward and leads to action Pursue the development of new ideas or projects based on insight and
experience Participate as an active member of the executive team Work with executive team to recruit staff in talent, strategy, policy and
research areas as needed
Represent CFC as a speaker, facilitator or participant at conferences and
events
as needed Position Qualifications
The Vice-President of Strategy & Talent will be someone who wakes up excited to
build a high-impact national organization; who believes state and city education
chiefs are essential agents of change; and who are motivated by the opportunity to
make a positive difference in the lives of millions of American children and families.
Given our virtual office model, the Vice President will need to be an extremely
effective and dynamic team leader. Given the ambitiousness of our vision and
mission the Vice President will need to be a creative and relentless project manager.
In addition, the Vice President will:






Have significant project management experience Demonstrated expertise addressing organizational-level strategic issues Have deep experience and understanding of talent identification and
development
Be skilled at developing and managing executive-level relationships Have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills Possess deep knowledge of education policy and practice
Ideal candidates likely have at least 3-5 years of experience in a cabinet-level
position in a state department of education or city school district or in other senior
organizational leadership positions, ideally in the education sector. This role is not geography-specific but will require travel, estimated at 2-3 trips per
month of 1-3 days duration. Salary is competitive and commensurate with
experience.
