Newsletter Two – 14th March
Hi Players, Parents and Guardians,
What a busy week it has been. Most of our 29 junior teams have
commenced training, the Premier teams are off to Mareeba for the
Mazda Cup this weekend and the club has submitted two more teams into the junior draw. Can I
thank all the parents who attended the first Parents Meeting last week. I do hope that you now
have a better understanding on the direction we are taking over the next few years.

U/6 – U/11 Parent Meeting This Sunday
This Sunday 16th March, we will be holding a Parents / Player Meeting for the U/6 to U/11 teams in
the clubhouse at 2pm sharp. (Ensure to arrive early as we will be commencing the meeting on
time).
It is expected that all parent/s be in attendance. If you are unable to attend, please ask someone
to attend on your behalf. Make sure to bring pen and paper for taking notes.
As soon as the meeting has concluded, all players will be involved in practice games, followed by a
free sausage sizzle. This will be a fantastic time to meet other parents and the coaches for season
2014.
The expected finish time will be 4.00pm. If you are able to bring a fold up chair with you, that will
help us accommodate everyone. We have seating for 150, however we are expecting 300 people.
Registration Deadline This Sunday (Last Chance!)
Please note that all registrations close this Sunday. If you have not registered and paid before
March 16, you will not be guaranteed a place on a team. In the last week, we have added another
U/10’s team and U/13’s team into the draw.
3 – 5 Year Olds - Squirts Program - Commences Tomorrow
The Marlin Coast Rangers 'Squirts' program is set to commence this Saturday 15th March.
It will run until the 5th April where we will break for the school holidays. We will re-commence on
Saturday the 26th April and go through to the 21st of June. The cost for this 13-week program is
only $65. Training is every Saturday morning at Nautilus St, Trinity Beach between 8.30 – 9.30am.

Elite Football Super Clinic (School Holidays)
Our school holiday football clinics are already starting to fill up. If you are looking for something to
keep your kids entertained in the school holidays, then this is your answer.
Marlin Coast Rangers players have 1st option to join these clinics if they register before 20th March.
After this date, they will be made available to the general public.
Monday 7th April – Friday 11th April (5 sessions – 2.5 hours each)
5 – 7 years (commences 8.30am)
8 – 10 years (commences 11.00am)
11 - 13 years (commences 1.30pm)
14 – 16 years (commences 4.00pm)
$150 per player (includes all 5 x 2.5hr sessions)
Our mission of the holiday clinic is to enhance overall soccer skills, to play at a competitive level,
improve confidence, and push players out of their comfort zone to improve. These high-energy
clinics will run during April, July and September holidays and include 5 sessions each.
All participants will receive:
• Specialised Coaching from Rhett Lewis
• Drinks and fruit
• Certificate and Prizes will be awarded to the winners of some competitions
We are also holding an Elite Goalkeeping Super Clinic commencing on Sunday 13th April

Are You Able to Help the Groundsman this Saturday Morning?
Our grounds man requires a few volunteers for two hours this Saturday morning (9.30am) to
prepare the fields for the weekends games. If you are able to assist, please contact Heinz on

Grant Applications, In kind Support, Sponsorship
Grants: Throughout the year funding becomes available via grants from different organisations;
the money from these if we are successful is used to improve the club and grounds e.g. (extra
equipment/training aids/topdressing). We as a club are looking for one or more of our members
who have had experience or are just willing to give it a go to help write and apply for some of these
grants.
At the moment there is a Sustainability grant available for which if successful we would like to use
to get a solar hot water system installed for the clubhouse. If any of the members are able to give a
quote on this through their business as three quotes are required to apply it would be much
appreciated.
In Kind Support: We are a non for profit club and all help whether it is through a donation of
money, materials or just your time to do some maintenance around the club is greatly appreciated,
please keep your eye out for a wish list which will be put on the clubs web site and face book page.

Sponsorship: Sponsorship packages are available for Junior and Senior playing strips, the
sponsorship is over two years and includes your business logo on the strip which is viewed by 100’s
of families each week, it also includes other opportunities for you business to be promoted through
the club.

Cool Football Fact of the Week
Romanian midfielder Ion Radu was sold by Second Division Jiul Petrosani to Valcea in 1998 for

MCRFC has a closed Facebook Group that is used to provide up to date information on the club,
training changes and cancellations, as well as general banter between parents, players and
supporters.

Club Shop Opening Hours
The club shop (located in the office) will be open the following times during the next week.
Sunday 16th March: 3pm - 4pm
Wednesday 19th March: 4pm – 6pm
Thursday 20th March: 4pm – 6pm
Anyone who wishes to purchase will need to pre-order. An order form will be handed out to
coaches next week. The cost of the training shirts are $13.00

On Friday 21st March, our U/15’s are playing Stratford at home. Kick Off 6.45pm.
On Saturday 22nd March, our competitive teams will be playing friendly games vs Southern Cross
Strikers at home.
U12: 9am , U12: 10am , U13: 11am , U13: 12pm , U14: 1pm , U13/14/15 Girls: 2pm
If you are unable to play on the 22nd March, please inform Rhett Lewis at training this week.

Marlin Coast Rangers Director of Coaching, Rhett Lewis has coached professionally for more than 15 years, during
this time he has coached academy and representative teams at several professional clubs such as Watford, Bristol
City and Nottingham Forest where he was the Assistant Academy Director. Rhett holds a UEFA ‘A’ License and a
UEFA Youth Coaches License. Over the past 8 years, Rhett has developed his coaching expertise and knowledge
working in USA, Mexico, Thailand, UAE, Caribbean, Singapore, Malaysia, Spain, Italy, Croatia and Cyprus.
