JOB DESCRIPTION
POST TITLE:
Assistant Rowing Coach
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Head of Rowing (HOR)
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To lead a squad of girl rowers to compete at national
standard and assist the Head of Rowing with
administrative duties as required.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
a.
Squad Coach
The specific squad to be coached will be determined by the HOR. Outline responsibilities
will be as follows:
1. Responsibility for coaching and developing a squad of highly committed rowers to
national standard
2. Teach sound rowing technique
3. Track and monitor the progress and development of the rowers in the squad
4. Compile a suitable training schedule for rowers, taking into consideration school
commitments
5. Write formal reports, as required, for pupils in the squad
6. Work successfully and communicate effectively as part of a large coaching team
b.
Administration
1. Assist the HOR and other coaching staff with the administration of trips and tours
2. Assist all coaching staff with Risk Assessments and minibus bookings
SPECIFIC DUTIES
1.
To work the training hours as determined by the HOR, and be available at other times, as
required
2.
To register girls each session
3.
To assist with race entries
4.
To assist with boat rigging
5.
To attend rowing camps and training weekends
6.
To assist in capsize drill training at the start of each new academic year, or at desired times
throughout the year
GENERAL DUTIES
1.
To be contactable at all times (except when on official holiday) by telephone
2.
To promote the safeguarding and welfare of the pupils and young people as set out in the
School’s safeguarding policy
3.
To undertake such other tasks relevant to the work or needs of the School as these needs
arise and as may be reasonable requested
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
a.
Essential:
1. Instructor Award Coaching Certificate (or equivalent)
2. First Aid Certificate
3. Good watermanship skills
4. Navigational skills
5. A sound knowledge of the sport and a sporting background of relevance
6. The ability to work with children aged between 12 and 18 years old
7. Good organisational skills
b.
Desirable:
1. Power Boat Level 2 certificate
2. Clean driving license
3. Trailer towing experience
4. BAWLA certificate (British Amateur Weight Lifting Association)
5. Rigging knowledge
6. Basic boat maintenance skills
