Strategy Statement
“Our purpose is to grow God's kingdom in this place
by developing links with our community, as Churches
and individuals, by asking the community how we
can meet its needs and then prioritize our actions
through prayer and discernment.
We will nurture a sense of belonging for those
currently in our Church and for those we welcome in
the future.”
…but what does that mean in practice????

Issues
• Since we started “Godly Play” a year ago we have encouraged children to attend that

Issues:

•
We are developing strong support for the 4 through 11 age range with Godly Play……but do not
have many in the 11 to 14 age group.
Over time, do we need to develop an integrated strategy that takes a child from birth (e.g. baptism
contact) through to “Godly Play” and then through teens into adult life?
If so who/how/when do we need to look at this?
In near term how do we make provision for any people beyond “Godly Play” whose families start
coming to Church (or are already here)?
Is the near term strategy to use Rock Solid/Rock On and if so how does that affect our support for
18
those activities ??

Electoral Roll
• Whilst thinking about this, we noted an opportunity to increase the
sense of “belonging” of people in the church who are relatively new
• Currently the Electoral Roll is updated as required every 3 years.
• We recommend that a regular review is carried out to identify people
who are not on the Roll but are participating in our activities regularly
with a view to inviting them to join the Roll
• Suggest this is responsibility of Vicar & Electoral Roll Officer

Issues with Current Organisational Structures
(and other issues raised on Parish Day)
•
One thing that came out of “Parish Day” was building links with the Community.
Where does responsibility to pursue that lie?
•
Do we have different people focusing on “going out” versus “inviting in”?
•
What does the “Pastoral” mean in “Mission & Pastoral”?
•
What is role of Leadership Team & Elders in Pastoral work?
•
What does “Mission” mean in “Mission & Pastoral”?
•
Need to think about balance between Fund Raising and Stewardship
•
Who focuses on “Building the Fellowship” (teaching, study, prayer, social fellowship)?
•
No connection with Church overseas. Should we consider a “link missionary” ideally
with someone with whom we have some existing connection
•
Do we need a “Press Officer and/or Communications group (with expertise in
generating posters etc) ??
•
Are Social events for “building fellowship”, attracting people into Church, or fund
raising?
32
Why do we have events ?
Building us
up as a
fellowship
(socially)
Inviting
People “In”
Fund Raising
Activities often have a mix of these reasons
So how do we organise to have clear responsibilities for them ???
33
Organisation
• We need to develop a governance structure to meet our
new strategic aims.
• For each of our groups/committees, we need to develop
a statement of purpose.
34
Next Steps

Strategy Team Report
PCC of Exning with Landwade
January 20, 2009
36
Background
•
Parish Day “"A Way Forward“ on May 9th generated 135 ideas
•
Problem was there was no time on the day to qualify, evaluate & prioritize all the items generated during the
“brainstorm” sessions.
•
The Strategy Team was set up for a specific purpose on a temporary basis
–
Strategy Team initiated on August 11th to take the materials generated and develop a strategy for the Parish
–
It’s remit was to evaluate the ideas generated on the Parish Day, suggest proposals to the PCC including which
groups might follow up long term (including any re-organisation of committees/teams/groups, and then disband
–
Any PCC Member could join the team.
•
Interim report made to PCC September 16, 2009
•
General presentation given to PCC November 13, 2009 and distributed to PCC members. This showed analysis
made and areas identified for further discussion
–
It was suggested that the results of the studies need to be discussed more widely within the church and then specific
plans and actions fed into the normal (or revised) structures of the Parish
–
•
The Strategy Team would develop specific proposals for the PCC by January 20, 2010
The rest of this presentation will be a series of proposals developed by the Strategy Team for the PCC. Each will
be proposed and seconded and after discussion and any amendments voted upon.
•
An open issue is whether our existing committees, teams, meetings etc need to be revised. A way forward on this
will be suggested
37
Proposal A: Adopt Strategy Statement
“Our purpose is to grow God's kingdom in this place
by developing links with our community, as Churches
and individuals, by asking the community how we
can meet its needs and then prioritize our actions
through prayer and discernment.
We will nurture a sense of belonging for those
currently in our Church and for those we welcome in
the future.”
A2: It is suggested that the PCC may wish to review this in 12
months.
