First Presbyterian Preschool Position Announcement Preschool Director The First Presbyterian Preschool of Atlanta is searching for a dynamic new Director to lead the organization. Founded in 1946, the First Presbyterian Preschool of Atlanta is the oldest, continuously operating preschool in Georgia. It serves children ages 18 months through 6 years old (Kindergarten) five days per week. The First Presbyterian Preschool is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS/CASI) Council on Accreditation and School Improvement. The Preschool is part of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. As such, the mission of the Preschool is to provide a high-quality academic education integrated with a Christian environment of love, support, and acceptance. The Preschool welcomes and celebrates children and families of all ethnic, racial, religious and cultural backgrounds. The school has an enrollment of approximately 200 students. The curriculum is inspired by the emergent, explorative-based Reggio-Emilia approach. The Preschool has a partnership with the Adaptive Learning Center (ALC) to provide an inclusive Preschool program. The Preschool is a learning community where children develop skills necessary to construct their own knowledge and prepare them for their transition to their next school environment. Instruction is individualized according to the needs and skills of each student. The Preschool Director is responsible for all administration and management of the Preschool, including the supervision and development of more than thirty employees. The Director reports to an independent Board of Directors and is a member of the First Presbyterian Church's staff team. The Director will work in collaboration with church staff and leaders to embrace the Preschool's role as a vital part of the Church ministry. The successful candidate will have the ability to: Foster a nurturing educational environment for young children; Create a harmonious atmosphere for teachers of younger children to share their creativity and love of learning with their students; Support a cooperative relationship with the leadership of First Presbyterian Church and embraces the Preschool's role as a vital part of the Church ministry; Maintain and enhance the preschool's positive working relationship with the Adaptive Learning Center, and the work of its facilitators with students; Communicate openly and effectively with preschool parents, teachers, board members and church leadership; Attract, maintain, and nurture relationships with donors; Develop and sustain relationships with local preschools and elementary schools to facilitate a successful transition from preschool to elementary school; Set a tone of warmth, approachability and familiarity within the preschool. The successful candidate will also have significant experience working with young children, including a minimum of two years' classroom experience, and will have experience in organizational management, including hiring and supervision of employees, and budget responsibility. Experience in a SACS or NAEYC-accredited early childhood environment is a must. A Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education or child development is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
