Sean Payton’s Play It Forward Foundation Donates Two Truckloads of Food
from Feed the Children to Second Harvest Food Bank
WHO:
Natalie Jayroe, President/CEO Second Harvest Food Bank
Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints Head Coach/Founder of the Play it Forward Foundation
WHAT:
Sean Payton’s Play It Forward Foundation has donated two truckloads of food that will
benefit 400 families in both Washington and Iberia parishes in separate distributions later
this month. The truck bound for the Second Harvest Food Bank Harahan facility will make a
brief stop for a photo op at the New Orleans Saints Facility.
This donation comes at a time when Second Harvest sees an increase in need during the
summer months while children are on summer break from school. With schools out on
summer vacation, many families will face food insecurity issues as they struggle to put food
on the table. Childhood hunger continues to be a serious issue in Louisiana, with many
children and their families not knowing where their next meal will come from. For many
students the meals they receive at school are sometimes the only reliable, nutritious food
they can count on.
WHEN:
Thursday, June 19, 1pm
WHERE:
New Orleans Saints Facility
5800 Airline Drive; Metairie, LA 70003
WHY:
One in six households in Louisiana is at risk of hunger. A co-worker, an elderly neighbor, or
a member of your church, someone you know is hungry. Second Harvest Food Bank is
leading the fight against hunger in south Louisiana through food distribution, advocacy,
education and disaster response. Each year, Second Harvest feeds an estimated 263,000
individuals through a network of more than 300 faith-based and nonprofit partner agencies
across 23 south Louisiana parishes from Lake Charles to the Louisiana/Mississippi state line.
