Cycling New Zealand is a Targeted Tier 1 Sport with High Performance Sport New Zealand, and is a Targeted Sport with Sport New Zealand’s Community Sport Division. including 1 gold at 2015 UCI Track World Championships 06 ADULTS AND CYCLING: Cycling is the 3 MOST POPULAR SPORT AND RECREATION ACTIVITY with over RD 25% of all adults 16+ participating (823,000)*. 07 CYCLING HAS GROWN THE MOST of all the top 20 most popular sport and recreation activities, growing 3% since the 2007/08*. Sport and recreation participants who were interested in trying new activities rated cycling highly: #1 FOR MEN (5.5%), AND #4 FOR WOMEN (6.1%)*. Cycling tends to be a HIGH ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY with over 50% of adults that ride, riding at least 150 minutes per week. Based on the World Health Organisation Economics Benefits of Cycling tool, the adult riders that ride 150 minutes per week are estimated to save our health economy $1 billion annually.
