The Continuous Delivery model allows D2L to deliver updated technology to clients, enabling rapid, incremental delivery of high quality, valuable new functionality to users. This frictionless model also makes it possible to increase collaboration with clients and to adapt software in line with user feedback and needs, resulting in incremental and easily integrated changes. This more agile approach of incremental updates offers many benefits to clients, including a greater code quality, as we remove the need to support a long list of historical releases. The Continuous Delivery model is also beneficial from a support perspective, as our teams are able to focus on the details of the current release and do not have to address issues that may be resolved in newer versions of our software. The Continuous Delivery model was introduced in Brightspace Learning Environment 10.4. Since then, D2L has provided monthly releases to clients that have adopted this model. Upgrade Paths Under the Continuous Delivery model, upgrades are always to the latest monthly release and there is only one supported upgrade path from a 10.3 Service Pack (SP). If an SP is applied to your instance that does not align to the latest monthly release, then D2L will update it to the appropriate SP during the upgrade. If your instance is at an SP that does not have a currently supported upgrade path, D2L cannot upgrade your instance until the following month. For example, 10.4.7 is the January 2015 release under the Continuous Delivery model and aligns to 10.3 SP 13. If SP 14 is applied to your D2L instance, it cannot be upgraded in January, as SP 14 is not the supported upgrade path in January. The instance would have to be upgraded to 10.4.8 in February 2015, as that is the only supported upgrade path from SP 14. Your instance can be at a lower version or SP – those can be applied during the upgrade window. For example, you can upgrade directly from 10.2 to 10.4 or from a lower 10.3 service pack. However, during the upgrade window, D2L applies those changes. The following table lists retired upgrade paths, the currently supported upgrade path, and planned upgrade paths. A retired upgrade path is an upgrade path that is no longer available once the currently supported upgrade path becomes © 2017 by D2L Corporation. A planned upgrade path corresponds to a Continuous Delivery release that is not generally available (GA) yet and, as such, is subject to change. © 2017 by D2L Corporation.
