Title/Topic of Teaching Video: How to shoot a free-throw for 4th graders
Intro music: Sirius by Allan Parsons
Slide one: Hi I’m Sean and I’m Jamal, and today we’ll teach you how to shoot a free-throw. A player
attempts a free-throw when they are fouled in the act of shooting. If the player was shooting inside
the three point line they will take two shots. If a player is shooting a three at the time of the foul
then they will take three free-throws.
Slide two: The free-throw line is fifteen feet from the rim. While the player is attempting a shot no
player can enter the lane. The player attempting the free-throw has ten seconds to shoot a free
throw.
Slide three: When taking free-throws your legs need to be shoulder width apart. You should line
your body up with the rim depending on your dominant shooting hand. So if you shoot right
handed line your up the right side of your body with the rim.
Slide four: Bend your knees and slowly rise up. Keep the ball in your in your hand like your shooting
a jump shot. Whichever is your weak hand should be on the side of the ball, while your dominate
hand is holding the middle of the ball.
Slide five: When you fully come up from bending your knees that’s when you release the ball.
Remember to keep the ball on the fingertips of your hands. Also flick your wrist while aiming for
the rim.
Slide six: Now you know how to attempt a free throw. It takes lots of practice to become good at
free throws. So keep practicing!
