Senior Residential Support Worker (Stafford Hall School)
JOB DESCRIPTION
DESIGNATED MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Management:
To assist the Deputy/ Head of Care in providing operational management of the staff team and to deploy
appropriate staff resources in order that key tasks are fulfilled.
To assist the Deputy /Head of Care in setting and reviewing targets and objectives for the home in order to
ensure that work is focused and has clear direction.
To organise, deliver and co-ordinate induction, supervision, appraisal and support of individual staff in the
team, as required by the Deputy Head of Care/Head of Care.
To assist the Deputy Head of Care/ Head of Care in the identification of the training and development needs of
individual members of the team. To produce accurate, meaningful and measurable personal development
plans for each member of staff.
To undertake direct line management responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy/Head of Care.
To assist the Deputy / Head of Care in participating in the recruitment of new staff.
Children and Young People:
To ensure care plans are reviewed amended and implemented in accordance to company policy and
procedures.
To contribute to planning meetings and reviews as appropriate.
To ensure that the social, emotional and physical care needs of the young people are adhered to at all times.
Ensuring that appropriate activities are planned and provided within the home.
To provide evidence of pupil progression by ensuring monitoring and data sources are recorded in a timely and
accurate fashion.
To ensure that staff in the home work in partnership with the children and young people to promote their
independence. Also to assert each young person’s wishes and aspirations, publicising them as the core
objectives of the care we provide.

To liaise with staff within the Social Services Department, other Agencies, Health and Education, the Voluntary
Sector and the local community.
To promote the strengths of the service during regulatory visits.
To be creative and contribute to developing quality initiatives.
Adapt a positive attitude towards to the Senior Support Worker role.
To understand the necessity of Multi – Disciplinary working. To actively participate in supporting other
departments within the school.
To be resilient in dealing with challenging behaviour and be able to carry out physical interventions should the
need arise.
To work shift patterns that will include evenings, weekends and night duties as required. Bank holidays and the
Christmas period will also be part of normal working hours. Working hours will be determined by the needs of
the service in enabling the appropriate levels of support for the children and young people.
To be able to support the children and young people in both residential and educational activities. Working in
conjunction with education staff to ensure that educational targets are achieved.
To administer medication in accordance to the policies and procedures of the service and young foundations.
To respond to and meet the needs of children and young people as outlined in individual Education Health and
Care plans.
To support the children and young people in all aspects of their personal care, whilst respecting their dignity
and independence.
Safeguarding:
To ensure that the protection and welfare of young people is the paramount consideration of the staff team.
To ensure that staff understand and implement the Organisations Safeguarding Procedures and the Local
Child Protection Procedures.
Home Management:
To ensure that the policies and procedures of Young Foundations are implemented and adhered to at all times.
To have a practical and working knowledge of the Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations including the
quality standards. April 2015.
To ensure the smooth running of the home in the absence of the Deputy/Head of Care. By ensuring that
staffing levels are appropriate to needs of the young people.
To ensure that the physical state of the building is maintained to a high standard and that day-to-day
repair/maintenance problems are dealt with promptly.

To assist the Deputy / Head of Care to manage the budget of the home effectively.
To ensure that the Company’s Accounts Regulations are adhered to.
To ensure that the administration tasks of the home are carried out efficiently and effectively to make best use
of management and information systems.
IT
Good Numeracy and Literacy Skills.
To be proficient in the use of information Technology.
Personal Responsibility
As a Senior Residential Worker you must take a personal responsibility for ensuring you cater for your own
training needs, and that you remain aware of all current issues in your field of work. You are expected to
discuss your work in supervision and appraisal (Performance Development Reviews) with the Deputy/Head of
Care.
