Job Description For the post of Trainee Nurse Practitioner BAND 6 The South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre Introduction to the Centre The SWLEOC is an NHS Treatment Centre providing regional elective orthopaedic surgery services (including inpatient, day-case and outpatient). Established by the four South West London acute Trusts to deliver strategic change in the delivery of planned orthopaedic care, the SWLEOC provides high quality, cost efficient, elective orthopaedic services ranked amongst the best in the world. Since opening in January 2004, the SWLEOC has earned a reputation as a centre of excellence for elective orthopaedic surgery with excellent outcomes, low complications and high patient satisfaction. It has consistently achieved operational targets such as the 18 week patient wait time. Length of stay, infection rates and PROMs are amongst the best in the world. As a centre of excellence, the SWLEOC has a large volume of visitors from around the UK and abroad, looking at processes and outcomes. Performing around 5,200 procedures a year, 3,000 of these joint replacements, the SWLEOC is recognised as the largest joint replacement centre in the UK, one of the largest in Europe. It is also one of the largest shoulder surgery centres in the UK. Other sub-specialities include soft tissue, spine, foot and ankle procedures. The SWLEOC provides a clinical pathway of care that is nurse and Consultant led; Specialist Registrar’s will attend surgery for training but there are no House Officer/Senior House Officers within the centre, their role being undertaken by the nursing teams. The SWLEOC runs a dedicated research Outcomes program and takes an active role in research including Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) studies as recommended by NICE. The centre has a strong focus on Education across the multi-professional team. The Elective Orthopaedic Centre was created through the partnership of four acute Trusts: Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon University NHS Trust and St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust. Through the vision of their clinicians, Boards and executives, they have created a world class orthopaedic centre in a state-of-the-art building, situated on the Epsom Hospital site. The partner Trusts provide 34 consultant orthopaedic surgeons. Woking Time Regulations The Working Time Regulations 1998 state that employees should not work more than an average of 48 hours per week based on a 26 week period. Employees who wish to exceed this number of hours must obtain Management authorisation and will be required to sign an opt-out agreement which will be placed on file.
