Urban Team Nationals 2017 2016 World Champion Trains the

Urban Team Nationals 2017
On January 13th, five Mission Squash scholars flew to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take part in a tournament that
draws over 400 urban squash players from around the United States. This was Mission Squash's first year
participating, and our girls took 5th place out of over 20 teams in their division! We could not be more proud of
how they represented Mission Squash to the national urban squash community through their behavior,
perseverance, and performance.
While in Philadelphia, we also got to visit landmarks around the city, such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall,
The "Rocky Steps" at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and more! To read more about the trip, click here.
2016 World Champion Trains the Future of Squash Professionals
In November of 2016, Karim Abdel Gawad played against Ramy Ashour and won the Men's World Open Squash
Championship. Following this in December of 2016, he was officially ranked at his career high - World No. 2. He
was invited to Houston to play in HUTKAY.fit's Squash Fight Night, and boy were we in for a treat…
On January 5th, ten Mission Squash scholars attended a workshop at LifeTime Athletic with none other than the
2016 World Champion, Karim Gawad! During this workshop, Gawad spent 90 minutes on court training the scholars
to improve their agility and technique. Also present at this once in a lifetime workshop was Mazen Hesham - a
former World Top 15 player. The students had so much fun and even took part in a Q and A session following their
time on court, allowing them the opportunity to ask the players about their training, tournament preparation, and
squash experience!

Shortly after, Hogg held our first ever home match against our arch rivals, The Downtown Club. Fielding players
