A huge thank you to our wonderful school families! We greatly appreciate your patience and extra help
throughout this unusual, snowy winter, particularly in regard to schedules and transportation. Your patience
with school delays and closures, willingness to help out our bus drivers when there are last minute route
changes or cancellations, transport children, and provide extra assistance by shoveling snow or clearing our
bus pen is all deeply appreciated!
Annual Geography Bee: was held last week. Congratulations to Carson Duim (6th), who is the
winner for our school, and Jaden Jech (7th), who is the runner-up. Carson will now take a written
test for qualification for the state competition.
School Calendar Changes: Since we have had several days that we were closed due to
inclement weather, the school board approved the following adjustments to our school
calendar. We will have school on Monday, March 6, (originally scheduled as part of Mid-Winter
Break), and a half day on Good Friday, April 14. (This will also be our Grandparent Day, with a
noon dismissal.)
The High School District Basketball Tournament will be held in Goldendale on February 7, 9, 11, 14, and
15. On Tuesday, February 7, the girls will play Bickleton at 6:00 p.m. The boys will play Glenwood-Klickitat
at 7:30 p.m. District play continues in Goldendale, Thursday, February 9. If the girls win Tuesday, they
will play at 6:00 p.m., if they lose they will play at 3:00. If the boys win Tuesday, they will play at 7:30
p.m., if they lose they will play at 4:30. IF both teams win both of their games, they will have a “bye” on
Saturday and will not play again until the following Tuesday, February 14.
Admission, determined by the YVIAA, for district games is as follows: Adults- $7.00, Students
w/ASB- $5.00, and Senior Citizens (62+)- $5.00. All-Opponent Teams and League Championship trophies
will be presented between the 2nd and 3rd games on Thursday (approx. 5:45 p.m.) Come and cheer on our
Knights and Lady Knights! Let’s make the most of this great opportunity to represent Sunnyside Christian
School in a positive light with our sportsman-like conduct.
SCHS Homecoming activities AND Senior Night recognition will be held TOMORROW, February 3rd.
We will be honoring all seniors in boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball; as well as acknowledging their
parents just prior to boys’ varsity game. The Homecoming Court will be announced at halftime of the
boys’ varsity game.
Class Photos: for Pre-4 thru 8th grade will be taken the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 15, beginning
at 8:45 a.m. Order forms and more information will be coming home next week.
Jr. High Girls Basketball Team Photos: will be taken Wednesday, Feb. 8, during first recess. Order
forms will go home Monday, and can be returned to the office or to Mrs. Eisenga.
Ground Beef: If anyone has extra ground beef that they would like to donate to help
finish out Mom’s Hot Lunch this year, please call the elementary office (837-3044).

Iowa Test of Basic Skills: Wed., March 8 thru Tues., March 14 All students are highly encouraged
to be here during testing days, and we ask that you do not schedule any appointments during this
time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or call the office.
Supervision at Junior High and High School Basketball Games: Parents, please be aware
that the school does not provide supervision for your child(ren) at our games. We have many
younger children playing outside of both gymnasiums during the games. You, as parents, are
responsible for your child(ren), not school personnel. Thank you!
Junior High Career Expo: will take place the morning of Tuesday, February 21th. It is a
morning when students will attend up to four different seminars pertaining to either an
interest of theirs or a possible career path. The event is held at school, and we ask that
parents keep this date free from appointments, etc. if at all possible, as it is a fun event that
the kids look forward to.
K-8th Valentine’s Day Reminder: Please note the following school Gift Policy…”Students who give gifts to
each other should do so outside of school in order to avoid hard feelings on the part of friends and classmates
who are not included. If gift giving and/or valentine cards do occur at school, they must be extended to the
entire class (or all the girls/boys). Also, please be aware that gifts from parents or other people that are
delivered to students at school will be held in the school office until the day is finished. It is preferred that such
gifts be delivered to the student’s home.” Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS: The best place to check for school delays and cancellations
due to weather is the school website: www.sunnysidechristianschool.org. PLEASE CHECK THE
WEBSITE ON ANY MORNING THAT YOU FEEL THE WEATHER IS QUESTIONABLE. Also, if you
are NOT planning to ride the bus, PLEASE CALL YOUR DRIVER.
