Destination Imagination® Region 12 Governing Board Ohio Kids for Creativity October 7, 2016 Dear Team Managers: Welcome to another exciting year of Destination Imagination! The Regional 12 DI Governing Board hopes you will consider participating in this worthwhile program again this year. The 2016-17 DI Regional Tournament will be held on March 11, 2017, at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. 1. Destination Imagination Challenge materials are available at destination imagination.org or idodi.org for those who have purchased a membership and have received a team number. 2. Team Number Once you have received your team number from the DI organization, please do the following: o Complete the DI “Code of Conduct” on the DI website above. o Identify your team under your DI team number with your name and the team’s information. 3. Team Manager’s Training November 12, 2016, at Sinclair Community College, Room 4011. At this training we will present: o The creative problem solving process, o The tools for being an effective Team Manager, and o The Team and Instant Challenges Both new Team Managers and veteran Team Managers will find this workshop beneficial. We are offering a separate training workshop session for any Team Manager with three or more years experience and a separate workshop session for those managing a Rising Stars! Team. 4. Registration Online Registration Process o We have modified the Region 12 registration process. This year all information for Centerville teams will be entered online at the Centerville DI website at www.centervilledi.com/region-12-registration. o Before you begin, please gather all the required information as you will not be able to save that information and return to it later. See the website for lists of the required information for each piece of the registration. o Complete the information for the Team Registration, Appraiser Registration, Volunteer Registration and the Schedule Conflict Form. When you have completed the entire online registration, you will be sent a confirmation of that completed registration. 5. Registration Fee For Centerville teams, the registration fee will be paid by the Centerville Parent Support Group if all materials are submitted on time. Page 1 of 3 6. Release/Disclaimer of Program Participants Sinclair Community College requires that the parents of all minor children complete the “Assumption of Risk and Waiver & Release Form”. Please share the following information with your parents: o In accordance with the policies of Destination Imagination, Inc. we are required to notify all participants of any sanctioned DI Tournament of the following release disclaimer: “By my participating in an event conducted by an Affiliate, Region or other gathering related to the Destination Imagination program, the participants or participant’s parents or participant’s guardian understands and hereby voluntarily agrees to release, waive, forever discharge, hold harmless, defend and indemnify Destination Imagination Inc., and their agents, officers, boards, volunteers, and employees from any and all liability and all claims, actions, losses for bodily injury, property damages, wrongful death, loss of services, or otherwise which may arise out of the participant’s participation in activities related to the Destination Imagination event including travel to and from the event.” One copy has been included in this mailing or you can download a copy at ohdi12.org. 7. A completed Region 12 Team Registration includes: Team Registration, Appraiser Registration, Volunteer Registration, Schedule Conflict Information, One copy of the team’s “Assumption of Risk and Waiver & Release Form” signed by every team member and their parent/guardian. A team will not be registered until all information has been received. 8. Team Central Challenge No team can change its Central Challenge once the registration information has been submitted online at ohdi.org. 9. Tournament Appraisers Each team MUST provide a tournament Appraiser. Please discuss with your Appraiser that he/she will be assigned responsibilities for the entire day at the Region 12 Tournament on March 11th, AND is required to attend a ½ day of training at Sinclair Community College the morning of February 25th. To ensure consistent scoring throughout the competition day, Appraiser positions may not be shared nor will the Appraisers be able to leave the competition before their Challenge is over. If the original Appraiser cancels for any reason, the Team Manager must provide another Appraiser as we do not have a pool of Appraisers to replace them. A $25.00 penalty will be assessed for any team that is not represented at the March 11th Region 12 Tournament by a trained Appraiser. Also, due to scheduling complications, Appraisers will not be able to watch the team they are representing perform in competition. Please make sure your Appraiser understands that. 10. Tournament Volunteers Each team MUST provide a tournament Volunteer. Please discuss with your Volunteer that he/she will be assigned responsibilities for up to 4 hours at the Region 12 Tournament on March 11th. If the original Volunteer cancels for any reason, the Team Manager must provide another Volunteer as we do not have a pool of Volunteers to replace them. Schedules will be arranged to allow Volunteers to see their children perform. 11. Tournament Schedules All Team Managers will receive schedules and complete tournament information approximately two weeks before the tournament. If you are managing more than one team, please identify this in the Schedule Conflict information and we will try to schedule you accordingly in the Team Challenge schedule. Page 2 of 3 12. Rising Stars! Teams Rising Stars! Teams are required to have an active/paid membership to participate in a Destination Imagination Tournament. o Please see the DI website at destinationimagination.org or idodi.org for more information. o Our goal in Region 12 is for the Rising Stars! Teams to model their solutions as much as possible to the regular competition. Therefore, we ask that the Rising Stars! Teams have no more than 7 team members. At our Region 12 Tournament. Rising Stars! Teams will also participate in an Instant Challenge just as the competitive teams do. 13. Interference: A Word of Caution Destination Imagination rules state that only TEAM MEMBERS may contribute to the ideas and create the team’s solution to its Challenge. We ask that you please read the Rules of the Road where Interference is discussed and make sure your team members and your parents fully understand exactly what constitutes Interference.
