698410350 Nancy Exercise: Write the result section of Table V-1 and Table V-2. Pay attention to the three elements -- the location, the highlight, and comments. The opening paragraphs of all compositions were classified as one of three information types: a direct type which explicitly stated the writer’s stance (OP1), an indirect type which generally stated the argument or the subject matter but did not state the writer’s stance (OP2), or an ineffective type which had loose connections to the subject matter (OP3). The percentages of students in each of the four academic groups using each of these three information types are shown in Table V-1 (the English composition) and Table V-2 (the Chinese composition). As can be seen in Table V-1 and V-2, the ineffective type was excluded from the chi-square analysis because there was little evidence of its occurrence across all groups. Chi-square tests were performed on each to see whether there were significant differences between the direct type (OP1) and the indirect type (OP2) used in each of the academic groups. The results of these analyses are shown in the tables. 698410350 Nancy In Table V-1, the percentages between a direct type and an indirect type were similar, except Group 4. The percentages of a direct type (OP1) are higher than the percentages of an indirect type (OP 2) in Group 4 when writing the English opening paragraph. Students in Group 4 performed significantly better than other groups in writing English opening paragraph by using direct types. The reasons for the significant difference in Group 4 may be due to their background knowledge of rhetorical patterns in English and the influence of L1. In contrast, Table V-2 shows that the percentages of a direct type (OP1) are lower than the percentages of an indirect type (OP 2) in Group1, Group 2 and Group 3 when writing the Chinese opening paragraph. There is a significant difference between a direct type and an indirect type when writing the Chinese opening paragraph. The possible reasons for the significant difference in the findings may be due to the transfer effect of L1 and the lack of background knowledge about rhetorical patterns in English. The findings indicate the significant relationship between L1 and L2 in writing. 698410350 Nancy • You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. • • The graph below shows the differences in wheat exports over three different areas. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below. Write at least 150 words. • The graph shows the wheat exports over three different areas, including Australia, Canada, and European Community, from 1985 to 1990. Between 1986 and 1989 wheat exports in three different areas changed to some extent, but the most marked change happened in Canada. Wheat was the country’s principal export in Canada and the amount of wheat exports almost doubled in 1988. However, the amount of wheat exports gradually reduced and dropped almost 10 millions of tonnes after 1988. On the other hand, the other two areas didn’t change rapidly. The total amount of wheat exports in European Community gradually increased and even exceeded Canada. On the other hand, there was no significant development of wheat exports in Australia. By the end of the period, the highest amount of wheat exports was European Community and the lowest was Australia. In conclusion, the graph shows that the number of wheat exports in three different areas changed over the period 1985 to 1990, and the main country of wheat exports changed in 1989. 698410350 Nancy • You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. • The flowchart illustrates the production of coloured plastic paper clips in a small factory. • Write a report for a university tutor describing the production process. Then, there was a second-time quality control and the quality of color was checked in this stage. However, there was a question with the second-time quality control.
