We have so many great
things happening for you
this year. Some wonderful
new staff, new programs,
additions to the life
enrichment team, a
continental breakfast in
the morning, New residents,
housekeeping more often, a
new menu, new seating
areas…that is just naming a
few. We are working very
hard as a team to keep
your community a place
that you are comfortable
and proud of.

Happy New Year from your Life Enrichment Team. The new year brings new faces to our team.
Becca and Brittney both have extensive experience in Life Enrichment and are already bringing
new ideas and insight to our team.
We want to make sure you check your calendar carefully, as we’ve brought back a Sunday
Afternoon Scenic Ride. We’re also adding a weekly “Nail Care” hour and a weekly “Walking
Club”.
Many of our outings are filling the van to capacity, so we want to remind everyone to sign up in
advance for outings. Beginning this month, you need to sign up in the Life Enrichment Office for
these outings, you will no longer be signing up at the front desk. And, when going on an outing,
make sure you arrive at the front desk 15 minutes before departure time, so we can get loaded and
depart on time.
Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you at programs in the New Year!
Michelle, Becca, Brittney

Every year over one billion people, across the
world, watch as the ball drops in Times Square,
New York.
The first “Time Ball” was installed at
England’s Royal Observatory in Greenwich in
1853.
In 1907, the first “Time Ball” dropped in New
York. Made of iron and wood, the first ball
weighed over 700 pounds and was lit by 100 –
25watt light bulbs. The Ball has been lowered
every year since, except in 1942 and 1943,
during the WWII dim out.
This year’s ball will measure 12 feet in
diameter and weigh 11,875 pounds. The ball is
designed with a total of 2688 triangular
Waterford crystals of various sizes, and lit by
672 LED modules for a total of 32,256 LED
lights of various colors. To top it off, the
hundreds of thousands of people in Times
Square, who brave the weather for at least 6
hours before the festivities begin, will have
over a ton of confetti dropped on them.
For those who can’t, or choose not to go to New
York for this big event, can watch from the
comfort of your home (and those of us in the
midwest don’t even have to stay up until
midnight to see the ball drop).
Resident of the Month –
Neal Lendved:
July 15, 1922 Neal Lendved entered the world in
Kewaunee, Wisconsin. In 1940 he graduated from
Kewaunee High School. Neal worked for Wisconsin
Bell Telephone Company and in 1943 and was off to
serve in the US Army during World War II. Neal’s
fondest memory of the time he served in Europe was
meeting his lovely wife, Luci. To this day, Neal
would rather have dinner with Luci than anyone else.
In Neal’s words, “my wife, need I say more.”
Neal loves to hunt, fish and sail. And his favorite place is “Neal’s Secret Spot”, about 200 yards from
his “shack” in Door County. Neal would love to take a vacation in Pensacola, Florida – but only
wants to stay for one week!
Neal’s advice to today’s generation is “be careful of your ears and the environment and the morality
of your politics.” Neal says that one thing he’s never been able to get right (but is still trying) is
getting total approval from his wife, Lucie.
Neal and Lucie have lived here since 2006. Neal plays a very important role in our Moraine Ridge
Community!
In Neal’s words, “My philosophy changes as I get older because hopefully I get wiser with age.
We would like to wish Neal, Luci and everyone else here at Moraine Ridge a
VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!
WHAT GRATITUDE MEANS TO US…
Appreciating what you have, instead of looking at what you don’t have.
Thank the Dear Lord for this day…For my dear wife Lucie…Thank you for my
family and friends…and for the many blessings of this life.
Thankful for all the wonderful people in my life.
Being thankful for what I have.
Enjoying each day as it comes.
Appreciating the smaller things in life.
Loving the people in your life.
Being happy with what you have in life.
Are you grumbly hateful, or humbly grateful!
