Player of the Year
LIZ TWILLEY
OAKDALE SENIOR OUTSIDE HITTER
■ This dominant player capped her stellar career by helping the
Bears win the Class 2A state championship, making Oakdale
the first Frederick County volleyball team to win a state crown.
Her skills and leadership were invaluable.
■ Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and possessing a well-honed
hitting technique, Twilley was virtually unstoppable at the net,
averaging a county-best 5.44 kills a set. She had 118 of those
kills in the playoffs. She was also a force in the back row, ranking among county leaders with 3.26 digs a set, and had a serving percentage of 96.
■ She finished with 1,128 career kills and a .301 hitting percentage and became the first county player to be named
Gatorade State Volleyball Player of the Year for Maryland. She
will continue her career at the University of Maryland.

■ Another key member of the
state champion Bears. Feeding Liz
Twilley and Abbie Harry, she averaged a county-best 10.2 assists
a set. Had 1,290 career assists,
including 211 in the playoffs.
■ Her hard work helped make
Middletown’s hitters successful.
Averaged 7.64 assists a set. Her
serving and leadership were also
crucial components for one of the
county’s top teams.
■ All-around player who switched
from outside hitter to setter and
thrived, averaging 8.74 assists a
set to rank among the county’s
best in that category. She was a
team captain who also provided
leadership.
■ Forming a stellar 1-2 punch at
the net with Liz Twilley, she was vital
to Oakdale’s state title run. She
was among the county kills leaders
with 4.06 a set. She also averaged
2.37 digs and had a knack for
stringing together aces (she did so
in the state final).

LINGANORE
■ This returning first-teamer was
Linganore’s top hitter, averaging
4.23 a set to rank high on the
county’s talent-laden kills leaders
list. Serving and getting digs were
also part of her arsenal.

■ An all-around player whose
power, vertical jump, speed and
agility allowed her to enjoy a stellar career. She averaged 3.35 kills
and 2.79 digs a set this season.
She also had 124 aces.
■ One of the county’s most dangerous hitters, averaging 4.14 kills
a set. She also led the Knights in
aces (72) and had 165 digs and
17 blocks.
■ Another one of the county’s
elite hitters, averaging 3.98 kills a
set. While she could play any
position on the court, her forte
was being able to read opposing
defenses when she was in the air
getting ready to spike.
■ Crucial contributor for a Titans
team that tied state champ Oakdale
for the MVAL Piedmont crown. With
speed and set accuracy, she averaged 8.48 assists a set to rank
among the county’s best. The returning first-teamer also was a quality
server (88.5 percentage, 39 aces).
■ An ace defensive weapon who
ranked high on the county digs
leaders list with 5.12 a set,
including some incredible ones.
The chemistry between her and
Weaver was essential, helping
make Tuscarora one of the county’s best teams.
