MANY PLAYERS CONTINUE IN THE DRAWS
All scheduled matches were completed on day three of the Individual Championships at Ali Bey,
Turkey. Iggy Jovanovic won his match 0 and 0 and joins Gary Nadebaum in the fourth round of the
Men’s 45 Singles. Gary won his match yesterday 0 and 0. Unfortunately, Terry Deeth lost his singles
in a tough three setter, 7-6(6), 4-6, 5-7.
In the 40 Men’s Singles, Morgan Young won 1 and 0 and Jarrod Broadbent won 3 and 1. However,
Stuart Leslie lost 0 and 0. Mark Hadley (NZ) won a tough three setter, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
In the Women’s Doubles, Wendy Armstrong and her partner lost; Kerryn Cyprien and Linda Roberts
won 2 and 1; Chris Luhrs and Michelle Townson lost 2 and 3.
In the Men’s Doubles, Jarrod Broadbent and Morgan Young lost 6-2, 4-6, 8-10 (super tie break);
Stuart Leslie and Jochen Knober (Germ) lost 1 and 0; Darren Blade and Terry Deeth won 0 and 0;
Paul Macknamara and Andrew Schuelke lost 6-3, 3-6, 9-11 (super tie break); and Andrew Tavella
and Russell Schluter (RSA) won 6-2, 6-7(5), 11-9 (super tie break)
Of interest was the progress of Jurate Hardy in the Women’s 45 Singles. Jurate, a former Australian
representative who now plays for Lithuania, won the 2012 World Championships and won today to
remain in the draw at number 2 seed.
Yesterday, in the 45 Mixed Doubles, Jurate partnered Paul Macknamara but lost to Linda Roberts
and Terry Deeth 2 and 3; Chris Luhrs and Andrew Schuelke won 1 and 2; Wendy Armstrong and
Stuart Leslie lost 2 and 0; Chris O’Mara and Piret Ilves (EST) also won their second match and play
the other winners Kerryn Cyprien and Pieter Van Houten (Neth) in the quarter finals.
