SCOTS COLLEGE BASKETBALL CLUB Off-Season NEWSLETTER The off-season is where we work. 2 Summer schedule 3 January schedule 4 Pre season Camp. 5 OKC THUNDER Basketball raffle. Be sure to check out the Steven Adams Documentary, “The Kiwi Way” It’s a great look at how Scots College is helping student athletes reach their educational and sporting potential. Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students, We will be starting our off-season and pre-season a little earlier this year as the coaching staff felt we were a little under prepared for the quality of athletes and teams we faced at the regional level. The off-season is the time we lay the foundation for the 2016 season. Our athletes’ strength and conditioning will be a priority in the off-season. This will have a positive effect on injury prevention during the season as well as having stronger, faster and healthier athletes. We have already had a group of keen boys coming to the ASB trainings on Sunday evening, 5-7pm. This is open to all basketball athletes both social and competitive. The focus is on individual skill work. There will also be opportunities to scrimmage and develop over the summer. The schedule is on page 2-3. The January 19-22 training camp is the first of 2 trials held during the first term. It will be the official start to the pre-season and all students who are interested in playing competitive basketball should participate. We want to provide the best chance to get better everyday and starting with a camp is the ideal platform to outline the expectations and the systems we will be implementing for 2016. The OKC Thunder raffle has been approved and we will be moving to distribute tickets to the basketball club students in the first week of December. It’s a wonderful prize and a great Christmas gift. I would like to thank everyone who supported the whitebait sale and special thanks to Sam Wall for organizing such a delicious fundraiser. Have a great New Year break and I look forward to seeing you all over the summer as we try and get better everyday. Troy Mclean Director of Basketball SUMMER BASKETBALL. This off-season is an opportunity for Scots College basketball student athletes to start working on the individual basketball skills that create the foundation for success in 2016. We want to give our athletes the best possible chance to succeed so we will be providing as many opportunities as we can to get better everyday. ALL Year 9-13 students, both social and competitive basketball athletes are welcome to participate over the summer holidays, as the sessions will be individual skill based. These sessions carry NO COST to the participants. The December and January schedule is attached and will also be on the Facebook page and website. If you are planning to play competitive basketball next season then the Sunday sessions are very important to participate in, as you not only will be developing your own game but you will have the distinct advantage of learning the team concepts earlier than those that choose to not participate.
