WHAT CAN O V A L DO ?
6
O V A L is a useful addition to any home or office. The sensors can be used in countless
ways, alerting you to many different types of activities that may require immediate
attention. And with simultaneous alerts being received by up to 13 people in your network - family members, coworkers, friends or neighbors - you’ll be empowered to take
action no matter where you are.
Whether you live alone, with family, friends or roommmates, or care for pets, young
children, teens or adults, we hope you’ll find O V A L as an extra layer of security and
peace of mind in home awareness.
The motion sensor is ideal for detecting when doors or windows are disturbed, or notifying you if anyone is coming or going in your home or office. It can also alert you
if a liquor or medicine cabinet is disturbed, computers or other sensitive items are accessed, or if a purse or valuables are moved.
The light sensor is ideal for detecting if there is a major shift of light in an environment.
This is helpful for alerting you if someone may need attention, if motion lights are activated, or if a fuse blows or light bulb burns out.
The moisture sensor is ideal for detecting changes in relative humidity, alerting you to
potential issues that may be conducive to creating mold, damaging computer equipment or ruining food or sensitive items. It can also help you conserve energy, protect
against water damage, and save money.
WHAT CAN O V A L DO ?
7
The temperature sensor is ideal for detecting if doors or windows are left open, a heating or cooling system fails, an appliance is overheating or freezing, a refrigerator is left
open, pipes begin to freeze, or if food or medication reaches an undesirable temperature. This sensor can be essential for conserving energy, saving money, and ensuring
the comfort of loved ones.
The proximity sensor is ideal for detecting if anything tagged with a sensor moves away
from the gateway. This will help alert you if a dog, child or object is moving away from
your property.
The external flood sensor* is ideal for detecting water around your home or office that
may be caused from leaky windows, pipes, appliances, toilets, sinks, and bathtubs. Use
the flood detector in basements, attics or other areas that may be susceptible to water
leaks, detecting them before extensive damage is done to your property.
*
To use the flood feature, you first much purchase the OVAL external flood detector, sold separately.

The O V A L motion sensor works by detecting movement of the actual sensor itself. It
does not pick up objects moving in front of it. When the object you’ve attached a sensor to has a direct interaction with motion, you’ll be quickly notified.
Here are placement tips for just a few of the many objects who’s motion you can monitor with a sensor :
Doors
Medicine Cabinets
Place near the handle,
hinges, or areas - where
the most motion may
occur.
Place near the handle
or knob - on the inside
of the door - where the
most motion may occur.
Bags
Electronics
Stand the sensor on its
side inside the bag - so
it’s likely to topple over if
the bag is moved.
Place near the areas that
would create the most
motion when the item is
moved.

The O V A L light sensor works by detecting the light immediately around the sensor.
The light sensor is small and located top of the sensor, so you want to place it in areas
where light has the best chance of interacting with this part of the sensor.
Each environment is different and light can be affected by the location of the sensor as
it relates to the light source, what direction the sensor is facing, and what objects may
be interferring in the space between the light and the sensor.
Light is measured in lux. On the light simple menu, you will see the current lux value
displayed. This is your starting reference point.
You can use the slider to set the acceptable level of light (lux). Your sensor will notify
you whenever the lux values are outside of this range.

The O V A L moisture sensor works by detecting relative humidity (RH) in the area near
the sensor.
High humidity can negatively affect health and comfort. It can lead to the growth of
mildew and mold, and damage items such as furniture, electronics, artwork, wallpaper,
and floors.
Low humidity can also negatively affect health and comfort too. It can also cause wood
and furniture to split and crack, adhesives to wear out, and increase static electricity.
High or low humidity, over long periods of time, can also increase your energy consumption and bills. It can also cause negative financial repercussions through increased
property maintenance or replacement expenses. There are also real and negative health
consequences caused by abnormal humidity levels.
O V A L sensors are not waterproof! To detect a water leak,
please use the external sensor housing and detachable
flood sensor (sold separately). See page 38.

The O V A L temperature sensor works by detecting the temperature around the sensor.
The wrong temperature can lead to the discomfort of people and pets, ruin food and
medication, damage objects, cause pipes to freeze or burst, appliances to fail, lead to
fires, or create many other scenarios that you would want to know about immediately.
Additionally, this sensor is great for remotely monitoring the temperature in a person’s
room to ensure that they are comfortable at all times.

When using your O V A L sensors
Try to keep your sensors free from damage caused by exposure to water, dirt, dust or
heat. Use caution when placing your sensors to find the best spot to both protect the
sensor and monitor your environment.
When storing your O V A L sensors
If you are not currently using your sensors, remove the battery and store them in a
clean, safe place at room temperature away from excess light, heat, and moisture.
Cleaning your O V A L sensors
Gently blow into the small holes on the sensor to clear any dust or other debris that
may be in the way. For the light sensor - the clear but covered hole on top of the sensor - use a soft, non-abrasive cloth and gently wipe the sensor cover to remove any
fingerprints or dust that may be blocking light from the sensor.
HAZARD
Be sure to keep the hardware and batteries away
from children as they contain small parts and can
be choking hazards.

My sensor light did not blink during set up.
Remove the battery, wait 5 seconds, and replace. Or, try another battery.
Firewall is blocking my gateway from connecting.
If you have a firewall set up, you’ll need to add your gateway MAC ID to your connection
list to allow your gateway to connect to your internet.
My gateway won’t connect to my router.
Unplug gateway, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Back out of the gateway set up
process and try the process again. If that doesn’t work, restart the gateway by inserting
a pin into a small hole at the bottom of the gateway. Make sure you feel the button click
and that the LED light on the gateway is solid green. If not, repeat the process.
My sensor cannot be found.
Make sure that the sensor is near the gateway, the battery is connected properly, and
the LED on the gateway is solid green. If it still can’t be found, double tap your sensor
to wake it up from deep sleep. Next, try removing and then reinserting the battery. If
you’re still having problems, try a new battery.
My sensor is connected but the app says it is offline.
Double tap your sensor to wake it up from deep sleep. If that does not work, remove
the battery for a minute, and then replace it.
How do I reset my gateway?
Using a pin or other thin object, push the reset button located inside of the small hole
underneath the gateway. You will feel a click.

How do I reinstall my sensor?
If your sensor is not functioning properly, try reinstalling your sensor. First, you must
delete your sensor from your account. Once deleted, use the app to locate your sensor
again and then follow the set up process.
I am not receiving push notifications.
Push notifications can only be received if the OVAL app is closed. Please make sure the
enable button is selected for push notifications. If you’re still experiencing problems
log out of your account and log back in.
My battery is draining quickly.
Activate battery saving mode to extend your battery life. This will disable the proxmity
and light sensor and the sound / visual notifications. Other factors may affect battery
life including using the sensor in cold environments and placing it farther from the
gateway.
