It can also alert you if a liquor or medicine cabinet is disturbed, computers or other sensitive items are accessed, or if a purse or valuables are moved. The light sensor is ideal for detecting if there is a major shift of light in an environment. This is helpful for alerting you if someone may need attention, if motion lights are activated, or if a fuse blows or light bulb burns out. The moisture sensor is ideal for detecting changes in relative humidity, alerting you to potential issues that may be conducive to creating mold, damaging computer equipment or ruining food or sensitive items. It can also help you conserve energy, protect against water damage, and save money. WHAT CAN O V A L DO ? 7 The temperature sensor is ideal for detecting if doors or windows are left open, a heating or cooling system fails, an appliance is overheating or freezing, a refrigerator is left open, pipes begin to freeze, or if food or medication reaches an undesirable temperature. This sensor can be essential for conserving energy, saving money, and ensuring the comfort of loved ones. The proximity sensor is ideal for detecting if anything tagged with a sensor moves away from the gateway. This will help alert you if a dog, child or object is moving away from your property. The external flood sensor* is ideal for detecting water around your home or office that may be caused from leaky windows, pipes, appliances, toilets, sinks, and bathtubs. Use the flood detector in basements, attics or other areas that may be susceptible to water leaks, detecting them before extensive damage is done to your property. * To use the flood feature, you first much purchase the OVAL external flood detector, sold separately. It does not pick up objects moving in front of it. When the object you’ve attached a sensor to has a direct interaction with motion, you’ll be quickly notified. Here are placement tips for just a few of the many objects who’s motion you can monitor with a sensor : Doors Medicine Cabinets Place near the handle, hinges, or areas - where the most motion may occur. Place near the handle or knob - on the inside of the door - where the most motion may occur. The light sensor is small and located top of the sensor, so you want to place it in areas where light has the best chance of interacting with this part of the sensor. Each environment is different and light can be affected by the location of the sensor as it relates to the light source, what direction the sensor is facing, and what objects may be interferring in the space between the light and the sensor. Light is measured in lux. On the light simple menu, you will see the current lux value displayed. This is your starting reference point. You can use the slider to set the acceptable level of light (lux). Your sensor will notify you whenever the lux values are outside of this range. High humidity can negatively affect health and comfort. It can lead to the growth of mildew and mold, and damage items such as furniture, electronics, artwork, wallpaper, and floors. Low humidity can also negatively affect health and comfort too. It can also cause wood and furniture to split and crack, adhesives to wear out, and increase static electricity. High or low humidity, over long periods of time, can also increase your energy consumption and bills. It can also cause negative financial repercussions through increased property maintenance or replacement expenses. There are also real and negative health consequences caused by abnormal humidity levels. O V A L sensors are not waterproof! To detect a water leak, please use the external sensor housing and detachable flood sensor (sold separately). See page 38.
